[15:48] <grogbot> <Toozie> So now that the Blade Runner (De)Enhanced Edition is out and we know it looks like ass, is there any scope for a fan led remaster with decently upscaled backgrounds and higher-res sprites to work with ScummVM's engine?
[15:55] <-- TAS_2012v left irc: Read error: Connection reset by peer

[16:23] <grogbot> <antoniou79> It's still not out here on Steam. I think it should be in about half an hour, and that's when the Steam sales also start, so it could be tricky for anyone who'd want to purchase right away.
[16:25] <grogbot> <antoniou79> As for a fan made remaster, never say never, but that's a huge task to undertake, even if fans were given money to do it. Ideally EA should release any assets they might have in that storage place where Petroglyph found some of the CnC code and assets. And even more ideally the actual original backup of those assets would be found in some developer's basement.

[17:22] <grogbot> <BeleG> I think the main problem is that those aren't really sprites and without the original assets you'd have to re-model and animate all the characters to increase their fidelity, which is just not a realistic proposition for a fan project
[17:22] <grogbot> <Bluddy> Doesn't seem like a particularly successful remaster https://steamcommunity.com/app/1678420/discussions/0/3419936083023832776/#c3419936083024552462
[17:22] <grogbot> <Bluddy> The crazy thing is, NightDive was talking up all this nonsense about porting it to their 3d engine, remaking it etc. It was obvious BS.
[17:23] <grogbot> <Bluddy> Pricing the thing at $10 tells you all you need to know.
[17:27] <grogbot> <BeleG> Yeah, they really screwed up getting into this project and making all these claims without having first secured access to the assets contractually and testing what could be achieved with them. If the claims were based on anything tangible it had to be those assets, and I'm surprised that a company with Nightdive's remastering experience would have missed that step.
[17:29] <grogbot> <Bluddy> it was so obvious too. you're going to recreate the entire environment in a niche game? yeah right.
[17:36] <grogbot> <BeleG> Here it's even worse, and it's 50% reduced on GOG for those who owned the original. Hey, at least they're not pretending it's revolutionary, I for one appreciate the honesty, it's just a shame they couldn't do more with it (I would have paid a lot more than this for a better remaster!).

[20:23] <grogbot> <antoniou79> Subtitles for English are ours. French and Spanish are from ScummVM community members too. They added the name of the speaker to subs and also a rectangular frame.

[20:39] <grogbot> <Elfhuo> because i have to set it to software rendering because it will lag otherwise
[20:39] <grogbot> <BeleG> The videos in the RPS article show different behaviour, e.g. in the balcony, where in the EE you cannot hear the off-world colonies announcements and the music gets randomly cut off after certain sound effects

[20:43] <grogbot> <BeleG> They seem to have done a poor job but at least it's their own effort. They probably rushed it out to be honest, that tracks with this launch under the radar and the ridiculous price, they're cutting their losses on this.
[20:44] <grogbot> <Elfhuo> why is GF Lagging so bad when i walk or the cutscenes play
[20:44] <grogbot> <Elfhuo> or i run into something
[20:51] <grogbot> <sev> @Elfhuo please define "lagging" and specify your platform
[20:57] <grogbot> <Elfhuo> its slowing down when the opening cutscene plays and when i move around a lot and my platform is windows vista
[20:57] <grogbot> <Bluddy> That could be a sound system issue
[20:57] <grogbot> <Bluddy> in their engine
[20:57] <grogbot> <Elfhuo> vista buisness 64-bit
[20:58] <grogbot> <Bluddy> It's just super suspicious that they put out this thing after scummvm announced support for it. Maybe they were working on it, and then we supported BR, and then they used the scummvm codebase as a reference for the stuff they were missing...
[21:03] <grogbot> <criezy> 2.5.1 can only be built for PPC Mac if you disable some of the stable engines. It is otherwise too big. But with the recent work by @dwa to support building with plugins (as well as a few other fixes), a 2.6.0 version would be a possibility.
[21:06] <grogbot> <sev> Please, do not speculate
[21:06] <grogbot> <sev> we were in contact with them right away
[21:07] <grogbot> <sev> we did not came to agreement with dual licensing, and they told "we will do it by our own"
[21:07] <grogbot> <sev> that was three years ago
[21:08] <grogbot> <ryanbgstl> FYI if people are looking at used Obsidian, the 5-CD jewel is supposed to have no cover, so the odd exposed CD look is actually complete. If the owner jammed the manual into the first slot that would actually be in slightly worse condition.
