[00:21] <grogbot> <PurpleMoustache> FF remastered is on game pass right now, if you have a dollar you can get a month
[00:24] <grogbot> <PurpleMoustache> as far as I'm aware the only real new things are the art and audio, which is given a 7.1 mix, as well as the customary special edition/remastered commentary track
[00:30] <grogbot> <GeekOB> Oh yes, there's other extras like artwork too
[00:53] <Scummette> [scummvm] bluegr closed pull request #2730: BACKENDS: search also for track_x and track_xx audio cd tracks (master...pr/audio-cd-file-pattern) https://git.io/JtfXX

[00:53] <Scummette> scummvm/master f5164c9 mgerhardy: BACKENDS: search also for track_x and track_xx audio cd tracks
[00:59] <-- L0ngcat_ left irc: Remote host closed the connection
[00:59] <-- marcusr_ left irc: Remote host closed the connection
[01:34] <grogbot> <trembyle> I just saw the commit to accommodate track_x and track_xx for CD audio track names.
[01:34] <grogbot> <trembyle> One thing that would be nice is to allow the tracks starting with track2 instead of track1.
[01:35] <grogbot> <trembyle> I find I always rip tracks from my discs and then subtract 1 from the track numbers. Does anyone else have that issue?
[01:57] <grogbot> <SupSuper> how would you know which convention to use?
[02:18] <grogbot> <trembyle> Maybe a gui option? Or at least a console option.
[02:18] <grogbot> <trembyle> When starting from the cmd line
[02:19] <grogbot> <trembyle> Or is it fair to assume that when 2 is the lowest number to use that convention?
[02:32] <grogbot> <trembyle> Could I ask what software people use to rip tracks that defaults to track1? I'm confused at how we arrived at that convention in the first place.
[02:33] <grogbot> <trembyle> I know that I can set a default starting track with abcde in linux, but I can't imagine that everyone is using that.
[02:33] <grogbot> <trembyle> Did you all just write scripts to renumber the starting track to track1? Or are people doing it manually?
[02:40] <grogbot> <SupSuper> i thought they always started at 02, at least all the digital releases do
[02:40] <grogbot> <SupSuper> maybe there's engines that need data track 1?
[02:41] <grogbot> <trembyle> All of my files for every engine start at track1.flac, which is really track 2 on the disc.
[02:42] <grogbot> <trembyle> Do you have an example engine that doesn't require that?
[02:43] <grogbot> <Henke37> it depends on the cd authoring i think. multiple sessions can make things complicated.
[02:43] <grogbot> <trembyle> You mean like a Hybrid Mac/Windows disc with more than one file system?
[02:43] <grogbot> <trembyle> As far as I know, most of those are still on Session 1

[02:45] <-- SylvainTV left irc: Ping timeout: 265 seconds
[02:45] <grogbot> <Henke37> any cd can use multiple sessions. whether or not it's a good idea i don't know.

[02:45] #scummvm: mode change '+o SylvainTV' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.
[02:47] <grogbot> <trembyle> That might be over-complicating things. AFAIK, for games that use red book audio, you put the CD in a regular CD player, and the music starts at Track 2.
[02:47] <grogbot> <Henke37> that's the most common configuration yes
[02:48] <grogbot> <trembyle> Shouldn't the most common configuration be the standard that's supported?
[02:49] <grogbot> <trembyle> I still would like to know how people are ripping their discs, and if everyone has written a custom script to renumber tracks (in the most common configuration).

[02:49] <grogbot> <SupSuper> from what i can tell it's the engine that specifies the track number, so probably some expect starting at 01, some at 02, and it might need to be standardized
[02:50] <grogbot> <trembyle> agreed
[02:50] <grogbot> <trembyle> At least, I always assumed that they needed to start with track1, so I would set up my game files in that way.
[02:50] <grogbot> <Henke37> meanwhile the actual hardware api uses the real track numbers on the cd
[02:50] --> marcusr joined #scummvm.
[02:51] <grogbot> <trembyle> Is there a good way to search across engine code to see what initial track number is expected?
[02:52] <grogbot> <SupSuper> they just specify "track #", they don't look for "tracks starting at #"
[02:52] <grogbot> <trembyle> Good point. It would have to, or you'd would destroy headphone users as soon as track 1 is called.

[02:56] <grogbot> <trembyle> Do you have any examples starting at 2?
[02:56] <grogbot> <SupSuper> the newest one you just mentioned, twine, since it's to support the digital rereleases
[02:58] <grogbot> <trembyle> Ah, got it
[02:59] <grogbot> <SupSuper> i do see a lot of comments like: // HACK: For now, just assume that track number is right // That only works because ScummVM uses the wrong track number anyway
[02:59] <grogbot> <SupSuper> // Subtract one from track. KQ6 starts at track 1, while ScummVM // ignores the data track and considers track 2 to be track 1.
[03:00] <grogbot> <SupSuper> every engine has some -1 or +1, quite a mess
[03:01] <grogbot> <SupSuper> probably depending on which version they were trying to support, ost remasters, digital rips, etc

[17:59] <eriktorbjorn> Perhaps most noticeable on the spinning domes in Riven, e.g. start a new game, open the debugger and type "changeCard 384" for one example.
