Are you lotharsm too? What are the new features of each Munt version? You updated it, but what did it improve? [16:07] @timofonic yes, that's correct. The last 2.4.1 update brought quite a lot of features while this one has only very very minor updates. However, in order to keep track with the release, I try to match each and every libmt32 version, even with smaller release. [16:08] Back in the day, there was quite a large version bump and integration was not easy due to some bitrotting going on and custom patches. Now, we can drop in the current Munt versions without any downstream patches at all, since I sent the custom patches upstream during the 2.4.2 release cycle [16:08] In the meantime, Munt evolved so much that each and every release basically consists of accuracy fixes [16:09] That's nice. Thanks for your great efforts! It's nice even ScummVM project contributed to Munt to make integration better. It's nice to have MT-32 emulation available. Thanks to all parties involved! [16:09] personally i hope for some performance improvements. mt-32 emulation can easily take 5 % cpu [16:10] and that's on my desktop machine [16:10] What's so hard to emulate? [16:10] audio synthesis. [16:11] rather fancy stuff from my understanding, enough for it to be studio quality back in its day [16:11] It seems simple, but devil's in the details. I did read it's harder than it seems. I did read some stuff and I understand many developers get scared of it... [16:12] it may be simple, but it sure isn't cheap [16:12] Of audio stuff [16:12] at its core it's a lot of data in not a lot of time. [16:14] I wonder if original samples could be remastered and emulate a super MT-32... [16:14] ldevulder_ (~ldevulder@176.167.1.95) joined #scummvm. [16:15] Nick change: ldevulder_ -> ldevulder [16:15] perhaps, but it isn't a pure sample based solution, as i'm sure you know [16:18] Yep, I know. It would be quite difficult and games requiring extensive patching of audio data too... Too complex for now and too crazy [16:18] assuming that the games didn't use custom samples, i don't think they'd need any changes [16:23] honestly, the big cost with mt-32 emulation isn't the actual sample computation, it's all the overhead from not being fixed function silicon [16:25] i swear, just getting to the computation results in a callstack at least five levels deep. and there's a loop around all of that to compute all the requested samples.
