[00:34] <grogbot> <Seri> PCVR version can take as long as they want if it means they'll have a journal integrated from the start
[00:37] <grogbot> <Seri> For the 3D imager, it's supposed to render 3D things, which since you can move freely in VR, they can't lock the player in place while the FMV plays. Otherwise you end up like Obduction where the projections are flat. Makes sense, just the style looks ugly and out of place.

[01:14] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Hey guys I'm new here, I've got what is probably going to sound like a weird question
[01:20] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> So I recently picked up an RG351V, this is a Linux-based (I think Ubuntu) SBC handheld that has various emulators on it. I'm using some custom firmware called 351Elec, which includes ScummVM. I've run into an issue with it where for some reason the music in Riven doesn't play during gameplay (it does and cut scenes but I'm assuming that's just because it's just playing a video file). I'm using the files from the GOG release. It's using a
[01:20] <grogbot> build that's using the latest ScummVM git (or at least the latest as of a couple of days ago). Now, I don't actually believe that this is an issue with upstream, as I can't replicate this problem with the same files anywhere else, but the 351Elec devs think that it is and said that there's nothing they could do to fix it. They were able to replicate the problem independently on their devices, but don't think it's an issue with their build. So they wanted
[01:20] <grogbot> me to ask you guys about it/submit a ticket on your bug tracker. I thought it might be better if I started here though.
[01:25] <grogbot> <Mataniko> It looks like it runs a custom version of retroarch
[01:25] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> https://github.com/351ELEC/351ELEC
[01:25] <grogbot> <Mataniko> so maybe they'll be ablet o support it
[01:25] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> No not really. It runs emulationstation
[01:25] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Which can access retroarch cores
[01:26] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> But in this case it's a standalone version of ScummVM
[01:26] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Although it does include the Retroarch core of it as well
[01:26] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Which actually doesn't have this issue (but runs like crap on this thing)
[01:27] <grogbot> <Mataniko> all i see in that repo is references to the retroarch core
[01:27] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> It has both
[01:29] <grogbot> <Mataniko> ok i see it now
[01:29] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> The standalone ScummVM runs really well, but for some reason is missing the in game music. I can send a screenshot of the about screen in the emulator to show what all is compiled in if that would help.
[01:30] <grogbot> <Mataniko> anyway hard to say, they generate a build based on our master branch which may have regressions
[01:30] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> You mean as opposed to latest stable?
[01:32] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> I could see that, but the reason I don't think that's actually the case is that current nightly builds (on Windows anyway) don't seem to have this problem, and the Retroarch core that they use is also based on the latest git and it isn't happening there either.
[01:33] <grogbot> <Mataniko> it's based on https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm/commit/0b5f5a2962d2c130c6734cb6945611c8416cb799
[01:34] <grogbot> <Mataniko> no point comparing to the retroarch core, since we don't support it
[01:34] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Yeah I know, my only point there is that these guys are supposedly building both off the same git
[01:35] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> That's what they said anyway
[01:35] <grogbot> <Mataniko> i wouldn't know, the retroarch core is building off the retroarch repo
[01:35] <grogbot> <Mataniko> and they have their own modifications
[01:35] <grogbot> <Mataniko> so it can't possibly be the same
[01:36] <grogbot> <Mataniko> you should be able to change the package script to build the stable version: https://github.com/351ELEC/351ELEC/blob/main/packages/games/emulators/scummvmsa/package.mk
[01:36] <grogbot> <Mataniko> change the PKG_VERSION to dd1bc997a35ac27db00b1e3bbd2a01a6f04ffbb3
[01:37] <grogbot> <Mataniko> (you'll need to calculate a new checksum)
[01:37] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Okay I'll suggest that to them and see how it goes, hopefully that will take care of it.
[01:39] <grogbot> <Mataniko> btw what music driver is set in the game options?
[01:40] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> I think just default, but I tried a couple different ones.
[01:40] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Most of which I didn't think would be relevant to begin with, since it's not midi
[01:47] <grogbot> <Mataniko> alternatively, you can try building the commit they build and see if audio plays
[01:47] <grogbot> <Mataniko> (on a computer)
[01:48] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Would that be different from using a nightly from the ScummVM site?
[01:50] <grogbot> <Mataniko> yes because the nightly is a more recent build
[01:51] --> DominusExult joined #scummvm.
[01:51] <grogbot> <Mataniko> it will help narrow the issue down
[01:51] <-- Dominus left irc: Ping timeout: 245 seconds
[01:51] Nick change: DominusExult -> Dominus
[01:52] <grogbot> <Mataniko> don't know anything about this hardware, but if you can run it with the debug flag and get the console output that could be helpful too
[01:52] <grogbot> <Mataniko> unfortunately i don't think any of the devs own one
[01:53] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> I don't have a way (or really knowledge of how) to build it. I know that standalone version on the RG351V is a custom one of their devs sent me that was based on master from just a few days ago
[01:54] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> So unless there's something that would specifically impact this that's changed within the last couple days, the nightly should be pretty close
[02:00] <grogbot> <Mataniko> doesn't look there has been any recent changes to the sound code
[02:01] <grogbot> <Mataniko> for Riven
[02:01] <-- Lightkey left irc: Ping timeout: 268 seconds
[02:02] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Okay, I'll check it out on PC and see if there are any issues there. There weren't when I tried it before but I know it wasn't a very recent build

[04:29] <grogbot> <ZvikaZ> @Zombeaver , have you tried other games?
[04:30] <grogbot> <ZvikaZ> If not, please try games from different engines. Maybe a Sierra, or Lucas, title.
[04:32] <grogbot> <ZvikaZ> Also, is there a possibility to emulate that device on a PC? That's way it'd increase the chances that someone will investigate this issue.
[04:36] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> I tried several, they were working correctly
[04:36] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> Played several Lucasarts games, Sierra, and Blade Runner and everything seemed fine with them
[04:39] <grogbot> <Zombeaver> I don't know of a way to emulate it on a PC. The RG351 devices are Ubuntu-based but the firmware is custom-tailored to the specific hardware. 351Elec is a fork of EmuElec which is firmware that's used on a number of devices that use this chip (the RK3326)

[11:24] <grogbot> <criezy> We have one in scummvm-tools to extract the speech from speech.clu, compress it, and recreate the file. I am not aware of other tools to manipulate the other cluster files. I was using a simple hex editor to explore the resources when working on the engine.
[11:25] <grogbot> <criezy> The clm files from the Mac version is the same format as the clu files with some resources (but not all) converted to big endian.
[11:25] <grogbot> <ZvikaZ> OK, thanks. I've started writing a small Python script, following your engine code .clu handling
