[08:24] <Deledrius> I need to play EcoQuest 1. I only ever played 2, but I loved it.
[08:25] <Deledrius> Even despite that screen near the end of the game which used to CRAWL for no discernible reason on our 286. The rest of the game played fine, but that last cave room before you get outside took *minutes* to move around the room and do things.

[20:59] <m_kiewitz> Does Steam use Dos-Box for that collection?
[21:13] <SupSuper> m_kiewitz: it's a copy of the GOG version. seems to be a mix of scummvm and dosbox
[21:15] <m_kiewitz> interesting.
[21:15] <SupSuper> lsl1-6 are scummvm 1.7 and lsl7 is dosbox
[21:21] <m_kiewitz> GOG took ages to update ScummVM. I wonder if they changed it on Steam as well.
[21:31] <SupSuper> doubt it, it's in the hands of the licensors, and it looks like they just dumped what they had. doesn't even launch multiple versions, you have to dig for the vga stuff yourself
[21:34] <SupSuper> the lsl rights keep changing hands so it's probably just zips that keep being passed down from generation to generation :p
[21:42] <m_kiewitz> I thougt Activision had the rights.
[21:42] <m_kiewitz> but yes, it's a mess and they don't care.
[21:42] <m_kiewitz> It's even surprising that those are up for sale.
[21:43] <m_kiewitz> btw. if anyone ever experienced something like this: I'm doing a SOAP HTTP(S) request at work for ordering medicine. Doing one to verify that server communication properly before actually doing the order.
[21:44] <m_kiewitz> This worked great for 1.5 years, and all of a sudden the other side gets a crash and it looks like the XML gets broken, I don't know yet what they exactly receive.
[21:44] <m_kiewitz> Our IT department said that they didn't change anything within the time frame, where it broke.
[21:44] <m_kiewitz> It's exactly the same SOAP request every single time. Binary the same.
[21:45] <m_kiewitz> IT department disabled virus scanner. I even tried a second proxy server, didn't change anything.
[21:45] <m_kiewitz> And last Friday I went home to try the exact same request - at home it works of course.
[21:47] <m_kiewitz> The request is done through HTTPS, so who could even be responsible for somehow breaking the data inside of it.
[21:58] <SupSuper> lsl has gone from sierra to activision to codemasters now to assemble entertainment who made a new game (dunno how good it is). funny that larry changes owners as much as he changes girls :p
[21:58] <SupSuper> they're some indie german dudes so they probably care a lot about the originals, you might convince them to clean the steam stuff up
[22:02] <m_kiewitz> Codemasters? o_O
[22:02] <m_kiewitz> I thought Al Lowe got a cease and desist order from Activision.
[22:03] <m_kiewitz> Ah wait, I guess he got the C&D for the remaining games. I think he successfully sold the LSL2+3 sourcecode floppies.
[22:03] <m_kiewitz> That would explain that.
[22:04] <m_kiewitz> Will try to contact them. At some point they could even use ScummVM for Larry 7.
[22:04] <SupSuper> it's been a bumpy ride. gog at least seems to be using scummvm 2.0 for all games
[22:05] <m_kiewitz> nice web site, fancy background
[22:05] <m_kiewitz> http://www.assemble-entertainment.com/
[22:05] <m_kiewitz> yes, I contacted them to do that. Still took weeks or months, I can't remember exactly how long it took.
[22:06] <SupSuper> who knows, maybe greasing hands with the latest rights owners may get scummvm some perks that a behemoth like activision wouldn't
[22:06] <m_kiewitz> Oh wow, new Larry game

[22:07] <SupSuper> yeah, it's an actual point'n'click! mixed reviews, haven't tried it myself
[22:07] <m_kiewitz> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RMk3UKvImc
[22:08] <m_kiewitz> I think at least it's not in corporate hands anymore, that's a good thing.

[22:16] <m_kiewitz> "It doesn't work. I've tried everything. Once it begins, it immediately crashes."
[22:16] <m_kiewitz> That's actually a good thing. It keeps people from playing that mess :p
[22:16] <SupSuper> lucky them :p
[22:17] <SupSuper> lol that would have to be a job for residualvm
[22:19] <SupSuper> amused that everyone always uses the full scummvm build... so a 5mb game becomes 50mb :)
