[11:16] <grogbot> <Pitito> Where could I report some dreamcast tidbits? For example: Although the .ini configuration works, some options do not do it like fullscreen, or apect ratio, or filters, in short, everything related to the screen. The native resolution of dreamcast is 640x480p, I think that dreamcast would support that little rescaling in games like Myst, which you can only play in its original resolution. It would be nice to correct this aspect in the
[11:16] <grogbot> Dreamcast version. I have also located a bug with the screensaver, when the screensaver appears the game crashes, and returns you to the Dreamcast bios menu.

[19:07] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> Hi. I'm looking for system requirements for ScummVM stuff. I like to use original hardware but the enhanced Ultima games, for example, are such an improvement that it makes lots of sense to play them instead. Is there any kind of guidance that exists on system requirements? I have a number of old PCs set up and I hope to use the best fit. It would be great if there was some guidance so I could get a head start on getting them
[19:07] <grogbot> working well.

[19:30] <grogbot> <Mataniko> do you have a more specific question? We have versions that run on Amiga, N64 and NDS - so pretty weak stuff
[19:30] <grogbot> <Mataniko> and games like Ultima don't exactly suffer much from performance issues
[19:31] <grogbot> <Mataniko> most likely if your old PC can run Windows XP decently, it can run most 2D games in ScummVM decently too
[19:32] <grogbot> <Mataniko> (we also have builds for 95, but I don't think anyone benchmarked us on a 486 with windows 95)
[19:33] <-- Harekiet left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds
[19:36] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> It would be on a PC. I have a 386SX which is period correct for the Ultima games before VII. And a Pentium MMX, a Pentium 3, a Pentium 4 and an AMD X6. The P3 and P4 could run XP comfortably, so I expect they would be ok then?
[19:36] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> The P3 has a connection to an MT-32 and SC-88
[19:36] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> The P4 doesn't have MIDI out
[19:37] --> Harekiet joined #scummvm.
[19:55] <grogbot> <Mataniko> i mean, there is no specific advantage to play these games on the old pcs vs any other platform if you're running within SVM
[19:56] <grogbot> <Mataniko> We don't have any sort of real performance measurements, so trying it out would be your best bet
[19:57] <-- Harekiet left irc: Ping timeout: 276 seconds
[19:57] <grogbot> <Mataniko> we don't emulate dos, so our code should be as fast as native cpp for the runtime
[19:57] <grogbot> <Mataniko> with some exceptions
[20:02] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> Ok. From the sounds of it then the P3 seems like the best bet
[20:02] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> But the non-emulation thing is important, that pretty much answers it outright.
[20:03] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> I prefer playing things on older PCs, I have a separate setup with a nice CRT monitor etc. I find doing it on my main PC feels thin, and emulatey and I struggle to focus. I'm thoroughly looking forward to playing them as convincingly "real" as possible
[20:05] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> @Dave Velociraptor why don't you use the original OS with original game, then? 🙂

[21:32] <grogbot> <TheUp> Is there a way to dump all the memory of a DOS game with DOSBox's MEMDUMP command ? I know it runs on a system with 1 megabyte of RAM. MEMDUMP needs a selector giving it 0000:0000 + 1 Meg of length doesn't produce anything different before/after loading a savegame. Now I know the buffer used is in DS:DX, but I guess I do not understand even that... 😦

[21:43] <grogbot> <mduggan> is it running in 16 bit protected mode? if so it may be beyond the first 1MB
[21:44] <grogbot> <mduggan> I'd have a look what the value of DS is and dump from there if possible. also I think CX=FFFF is sometimes used as "read it all", the return in AX will tell the number of actual bytes read.
[21:44] <grogbot> <TheUp> It's in real mode, with selectors
[21:46] <grogbot> <TheUp> I suspected that, thanks

[22:11] <grogbot> <sev> of course, not many engines are able to run on that, but SCUMM was running nicely
[22:11] <grogbot> <sev> Ultima engine needs testing
[22:11] <grogbot> <sev> we have Win9x-compatible builds, you may try that
[22:11] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> I do have a 40mhz 386SX and while that's where I would play Ultima VI for example, if I wanted to run the bare game itself, I'd do Win XP on the P3
[22:12] <grogbot> <Dave Velociraptor> All of the machines share the same CRT monitor, keyboard, mouse, mixer, speakers, MIDI out etc. So as long as one will do it then it'll "feel" the same
