[03:09] <Endy> Hey, the builds be building.
[03:09] <Endy> Good work mataniko or whomever fixed up that library path weirdness :)
[03:18] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> Links on https://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html are broken, getting Forbidden. Example: https://buildbot.scummvm.org/snapshots/master/mingw-w32-master-latest.zip
[03:19] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> which is a build that recently completed, according to https://buildbot.scummvm.org/waterfall
[03:43] <mataniko> Endy: someone fixed debian, but I fixed the rest
[03:43] <mataniko> I was just in Sydney btw
[03:44] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> @sluicebox Probably because I accidently killed the mirrorbrain database, @rootfather has it as a TODO
[03:45] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> TODO is a reasonable category
[03:49] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> hmm that shouldn't be happening tho
[03:49] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm getting a forbidden page with: You don't have permission to access /frs/snapshots/master/mingw-w32-master-latest.zip on this server.

[03:52] <ScummBot> Port build status changed with 41c29b57: Failure: master-gcw0
[03:53] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> ok fixed downloads from buildbot for now until mirrorbrain is fixed
[03:56] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> why buildbot, we were doing gcw0 so well
[03:56] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> and on packaging of all things
[03:57] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> yup, the error is now: The requested URL /snapshots/master/mingw-w32-master-latest.zip/ was not found on this server

[03:57] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'll hit your cache
[03:57] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> sorry, instinctive reaction
[03:58] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i blame my rugged upbringggging
[03:58] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> umm i swear it worked
[04:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm sure it did, but i just abused my privleges to verify it failing from multiple soverign world powers
[04:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> as i re-read that, i can't promise that i spelled soverign right.
[04:01] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but i feel that only enhances my recklessness?
[04:05] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm really enjoying the "__ is typing..." discourse feature right now
[04:09] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> ok really fixed buildbot downloads, it was a permission issue
[04:10] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm back to the first error: You don't have permission to access /frs/snapshots/master/mingw-w32-master-latest.zip on this server.
[04:11] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> ok that's because it's a symlink, blah
[04:12] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> btw i am entirely sympathetic to all of this
[04:12] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> empathetic?
[04:12] <-- dreammaster left irc:
[04:12] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> both.
[04:12] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> all three.
[04:12] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> my favorite joke.
[04:13] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> is the QFG4 playtesting over?
[04:13] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> that's a great question
[04:13] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm not sure if it's begun?
[04:13] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> realistically, i mean.
[04:13] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I want to recruit playtesters for a slightly modified version that I think many will appreciate 😉 but I don't want to interfere with the actual playtesting
[04:14] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> oh! uh, interesting? what version is this?
[04:14] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the anthology version but with orchestral music
[04:14] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> whoa
[04:15] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I guess I've been too silent about my side project
[04:15] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> UH YEAH
[04:15] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> ok so here is a draft of my testing announcement
[04:15] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I've decided to resume my QFG4 "music enhancement". I am not creating this music. This is something each user would have to buy and download from the composer's (Aubrey Hodges) bandcamp site. I am merely sticking it into ScummVM. I have made some progress in sticking the tracks into the rooms, but I need testers because there's no way I am playtesting this super branchy game by myself. The testers will have to purchase the soundtrack and
[04:15] <Grogbot> download it and then run a script to rename and convert it to a format ScummVM can use. No piracy of this music or gamefiles will be tolerated. Please let me know if you are interested.
[04:16] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> this is the soundtrack: https://aubreyhodges.bandcamp.com/album/quest-for-glory-shadows-of-darkness-official-soundtrack
[04:16] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> okay i'm just going to blurt out stuff into the channel without knowing details
[04:17] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but if someone has gone to the trouble of scoring and recording gorgeous versions of the qfg4 music
[04:17] <-- BeefEats left irc: Quit: Bye
[04:17] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> this is my proof of concept video that I shared last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0Po3weh_WI
[04:17] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> that's probably even more work than it took to do all the script patches (which were LOT of work)
[04:17] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> so i kind of feel like we're obligated to make that work?
[04:17] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> here's the best part: no script patches required
[04:18] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> watch the video and you'll be able to guess what's going on
[04:19] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> keep in mind this was done but sitting untested since last year, I've been waiting for QFG4 to be "stable" first
[04:19] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> omg
[04:20] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> for what it's worth, and i'll tell you it's not worth much, i used to be a pianist, and i love this, and i don't even like qfg4
[04:20] <Endy> mataniko: Oh really? Opposite coast of aus from me, but I hope you enjoyed it :)
[04:20] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I am not a musician at all .. I just shovel coal .. the coal was musical this time around
[04:21] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> well unfortunately for me i think i'm captain qfg4 by default due to poor life decisions, so what does it take to make this work?
[04:21] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> ok, buildbot downloads fixed for real for real
[04:22] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> update.bat agrees with you, thanks!
[04:22] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> discord is acting up 😦
[04:23] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> @sluicebox so I feel like you heard 2 pieces of news just now .. one is that the soundtrack exists at all ... and the other is that I managed to stick it into the game 😃
[04:23] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> YES
[04:24] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> can you speak to how you've packaged this?
[04:24] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> is it just a matter of dropping in SCI-flavored patch files (which ScummVM will pick up) or is it more?
[04:25] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> that's literally it
[04:25] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> that's great!!
[04:25] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> Scummvm's SCI will pick up "loose" resources
[04:25] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> OH YES I'M AWARE
[04:25] --> whiterandrek joined #scummvm.

[04:26] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> so you put the music (that's named and repackaged) in a directory .. mark it as extras and there you go 😃
[04:26] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> by repackaged I mean "in a format SCI understands"
[04:26] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> what does "mark it as extras" mean?
[04:26] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> each game (and ScummVM in general) has an "extras" directory
[04:27] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> optionally
[04:27] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> ok, i don't know anything about that
[04:27] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> engine asks for a file ... the ScummVM file manager looks there too
[04:27] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> in fact .. it looks there first it seems
[04:27] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> it's been a while since I looked at that code
[04:27] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm sure you're right, just hasn't been relevant to my interests
[04:28] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i just been raw dawgin' it in the game dir
[04:28] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> it's how James Woodcock's "music enhancement project" files were packaged 😃
[04:28] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I have a complicated system of symlinks in the global "extras" dir
[04:29] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i literally laughed out loud. "oh james woodcocks?? OFC COURSE!"
[04:29] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> discord hates me right now .. messages aren't being sent
[04:29] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> mine neither, right click on the "..." icon and jam Retry until that mofo sends
[04:29] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> https://www.jameswoodcock.co.uk/content/scummvm-music-enhancement-project/
[04:30] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and sometimes I will do the game-specific extras dir (like for music enhancement)
[04:30] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> ok it sent it but like "last"
[04:30] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> that "and sometimes I will do the game-specific extras dir (like for music enhancement)" belongs after "I have a complicated system of symlinks in the global "extras" dir"
[04:30] <Grogbot> <Mataniko> good night
[04:31] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> good night and thanks for troubleshooting web dir permissions like it 's 1998, you're a hero!
[04:31] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> good night 😃
[04:31] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> anyway .. James is awesome. He actually "created" the digital tracks from the midi input. I am not so musical.
[04:32] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I just manually go to a room, see what resource name is playing .. stick in the replacement .. reload .. repeat ..
[04:33] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i want to make my position clear on qfg4
[04:33] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm not that into it personally
[04:33] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> at some point I just unpacked the entire game to just listen to the raw midi (so I don't have to play it)
[04:33] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but a lot of people like it, and a lot of people love it
[04:33] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I love it on some theoretical level
[04:33] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> and it seems good, i'm just not into it
[04:33] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> younger me loved it so much
[04:33] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but it's covered like barnacles in the most bugs of any sierra game
[04:34] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> right and this will mess with that testing honestly
[04:34] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> which i've put in some preposterous effort into clearing up
[04:34] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and for that you are my hero 😄
[04:34] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> haha thanks
[04:35] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> my point is, this is a weird sierra game where i'm not into it but i care deeply about everyone else who is into it. what can i do to help?
[04:35] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> also, there's an insanely trivial yet terribly buggy scene that i'm like 48% though fixing, so i'm still stuck in this mess
[04:36] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> just let me know when you feel it's ready to be modded
[04:36] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> oh wait no that's my question for you
[04:36] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> if you've massaged this music into "patch file" format
[04:36] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> nope .. literally loose wavs
[04:36] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> oh!
[04:36] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> the picture is becoming clear
[04:36] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> wavs that happen to be containers for the literal mp3s
[04:37] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> iiiiiii see
[04:37] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> for example: 550.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, MPEG Layer 3, stereo 44100 Hz
[04:37] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> like I am not even transcoding the MP3s
[04:38] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the "entire effort" has been "which of these items in column A match column B"
[04:38] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> no this totally makes sense, i had gotten it into my head that this had already been turned into an SCI friendly format
[04:38] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> it is working by complete accident 😃
[04:38] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> an accident which I kinda depend on
[04:38] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> SCUMM had a similar situation with the monkey island talkies (UTE)
[04:39] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> we made it so it that it accidentally works
[04:39] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> haha wow this conversation is a rollercoaster
[04:39] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> MI1 and 2 have talkie versions
[04:39] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> how long does it take to walk 3 miles?
[04:39] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i forgot
[04:40] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> that fanpatch was all kinds of script-patches and such that are done directly to the datafiles
[04:40] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> okay but more pressingly to me, how long does it take to walk 3 miles?
[04:41] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> 1 hour
[04:41] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> oh good that's what i thought!!
[04:42] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm going to hold you to that
[04:42] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> 🤔
[04:43] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> 😕
[04:43] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> Sorry is that metric? I don't do that
[04:44] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> 20 mins per mile is what google thinks
[04:44] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> there's no metric mile
[04:44] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> Well your avatar is egypt and I was afraid your emojis had conversions I wasn't privy to
[04:45] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> oh I was born and raised Egypt till I was 23ish
[04:45] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> Thanks, btw, way more efficient to ask a stranger on discourse than a search engine
[04:45] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> now I am in Milwaukee, WI
[04:45] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> (and almost 40)
[04:46] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> so yeah I am very metric but I am also used to "freedom units" 😛
[04:46] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> A shocking age for a 90s adventure game fna!
[04:46] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the tail end of GenX
[04:47] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> well i'm trying to avoid driving to arclight in hollywood for a movie and this information has been crucial. sorry to everyone browsing logs.scummvm.org hoping for monkey island endian tidbits
[04:48] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> no, everyone knows about MI UTE by LogicDeluxe (I hope)
[04:48] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but in my defense i literally forgot how long it takes to walk 3 miles
[04:48] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I tried googling it but I ended up making a fake 1 mile route in google maps
[04:49] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and it said "20 mins walk"
[04:50] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> ok you're in CA right now which means it's not almost midnight ... I am in WI where it is
[04:51] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> enjoy the movie - good night
[04:51] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> lol well it doesn't start for another 90 minutes but now i won't miss it
[04:52] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> where were we?
[04:52] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> oh
[04:52] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> it sounded like you already did the hard part?
[04:52] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> you got someone's awesome independent qfg4 music into a scummvm compatible format
[04:53] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> even though that relies on some pre-existing hackery
[04:53] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> which is great!!
[04:53] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> so what do you need?
[04:53] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I need the hackery to remain I guess?
[04:53] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> keep fixing the game 🤷
[04:53] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> lol well inertia is the pony to bet on
[04:54] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the real hard part is playtesting this SOB
[04:54] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> the music or the game itself?
[04:54] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the game with the music in it
[04:55] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I played the early bits
[04:55] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> which made me make 18 tracks
[04:55] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> then I broke the game files open in SCI Explorer and just played the midis
[04:55] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and that let me match (roughly) 46 tracks
[04:55] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> but I haven't encountered them in the game yet
[04:56] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> not to derail but do you mean SCI Companion?
[04:56] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> yes thank you
[04:56] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> this was > a year ago
[04:56] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> great, so... i guess i'm missing the hard part that you're running into?
[04:56] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> like, i get that this game SUCKS to test
[04:56] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> TRUE STORY
[04:56] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> last year I tried to test it and ended up logging a bunch of bugs
[04:56] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but the music part, it seems like that's pretty binary, it either works or it doesn't?
[04:57] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> kinda sorta
[04:57] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> it should just work (tm)
[04:57] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> so some old SCI games had fun nuggets in the midi files
[04:57] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> okay, and how are those bugs doing?
[04:57] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> those were all fixed
[04:57] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> so that's good!
[04:58] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and then even more that I didn't file were all fixed .. all in the last few months
[04:58] <Grogbot> Command sent by sluicebox
[04:58] <Grogbot> ...haha yeah that cut into a bit of my free time 😃
[04:58] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I haven't touched it in a year and I figured .. people are playtesting this
[04:58] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> so as soon as it hits "STABLE"
[04:58] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I can take those playtesters and say "hey check it out"
[04:59] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> and then have them playtest it for me since I'm probably ever only gonna playtest 1 playthrough myself in the next few days
[04:59] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I'm sorry if this seemed like "hey man I need your help with my side project"
[04:59] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> yeah you are realistically one of the few who care about it the most
[04:59] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> there's probably tens of us
[05:00] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> like .. 25ish
[05:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> lol the Arrested Development Tobias "THERE ARE DOZENS OF US!!! DOZENS!!" battle cry
[05:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> well, right now, this project has my attention and time
[05:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> so it's a good time to strike
[05:00] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> you find things and i will attend to them
[05:00] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> sounds great
[05:01] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i'm aware of every qfg4 bug report that's open
[05:01] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> most of them are nothing-to-be-done-about sierra plot inconsistensies
[05:01] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> one of them is "oops they blew it" but in a way that's imporbable to fix
[05:01] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> one is a huge can of worms that yeah i'm working on
[05:01] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> the biggest problems for me were the showstoppers ... it literally sucked the enjoyment out
[05:02] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> as a kid I played the game without speech
[05:02] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> then a while back I bought the anthology
[05:02] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> so I was like "AWESOME .. oh .. dosbox .. yuck"
[05:02] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> as a kid i never played this game and my friend kept telling me how his little brother spent an entire day walk-save-restore-ing just to get out of one of the first rooms
[05:02] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> so it's pretty funny to try to avenge all that two decades later
[05:03] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> oh hell i have to hit the mean streets to make it downtown in time and get beers
[05:03] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> I think all sierra games I played had a dreaded "Ooops you did something we didn't think of" crash
[05:03] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> what movie btw?
[05:03] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i don't remember???
[05:03] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> FWIW: I never finished the game as a kid .. I finished a lot of sierra games but not this one
[05:03] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> it was this kind of game 😦
[05:03] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> OH!!!
[05:04] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> whatever movie the Hereditary guy did
[05:04] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> that was the best movie made in so many years, i'd trust him with my life. don't know anything other than the title and that he did it, i extend maximum credit, rallied everyone for it, going to find out if i'm a fool in 90 minutes. either way, this theater has a bar
[05:04] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> Jumanji?
[05:05] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> pour one out for me - I have work tomorrow and it is 5 past midnight
[05:05] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> thanks for your support and passion
[05:05] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> enjoy your movie
[05:06] <Grogbot> <tsoliman> good night

[20:37] <Grogbot> <Joefish> @criezy don't mention it. Rather I apologize for keeping it in an incomplete state for so long. I'm glad vyzigold finished it so it can finally be tested and eventually be marked as stable.
[20:38] <Grogbot> <Joefish> so, also congrats from me for your PR @Vyzigold 🙂
[20:40] <Grogbot> <Vyzigold> Thank you, I hope you will like how I continued with the engine developement.
[20:51] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Lol guess who's back?!? So I've been fiddling with the restored content mode for Westwood's Blade Runner, and it seems, despite meeting all requirements, the game never seems to want to ever start the Dektora ending. I have a save from the vanilla game that has mostly the same character layouts, but for some reason I can't get that one ending in Scumm. D':
[21:05] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> @JoesGuy did you start a new game in restored content version and can't get a Dektora ending? or did you load a vanilla game save into the restored content version? That probably will not be very compatible especially if it's late into the game.
[21:06] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Started new in restored content and played all the way through. Can't seem to trigger anything other than Crystal (if I don't pop Guzza) or Clovis (if I do pop Guzza)
[21:07] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Everything else should check out, though. She's third person in Act 3, shot first Rep, scared off Lucy and warned Dektora about Crystal. O_o
[21:09] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> Hm can you provide the save game?
[21:09] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Sure thing
[21:10] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/581224061091446795/598984537514442762/bladerunner-final-win.039
[21:10] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> Also does the save game work in the vanilla version?
[21:10] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Hmm I'll give it a try.
[21:11] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Hmm vanilla doesn't seem to recognise it.
[21:23] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> @JoesGuy, so in this playthrough, you warned Dektora, she called the cops, then you went in with Steele again to capture her. What happened then?
[21:28] <-- whiterandrek left irc: Ping timeout: 248 seconds
[21:31] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> I spared her in the upper dressing room and she left.
[21:35] <-- ny00123 left irc: Quit: Leaving
[21:41] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> ok, that is the correct action. The thing is that Dektora has a few conditions that may lower her friendliness towards McCoy, a few of them are affected by the dialogue in her dressing room, or stuff like McCoy revisiting her multiple times in her dressing room, or her knowing that McCoy is a Blade Runner in advance...
[21:42] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> From what I'm seeing in that save game her friendliness towards McCoy is lower than what should be if she were to become his love interest
[21:44] <-- criezy left irc: Quit: criezy
[21:44] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> She is friendlier than when the game started, but 2 points lower than what she should be
[21:44] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> So, I'm thinking that this might not be a bug.
[21:48] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Curoius. I must've messed up on two similar new games then.
[21:49] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> If only I had the means to track that stuff. Would be handy for sure. XD
[21:49] <Grogbot> <Henke37> fire up the debugger?
[21:49] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> well you sort of can, with the debugger
[21:49] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Oh wow, didn't know that was a thing.
[21:50] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> If you load a game near/before your first meeting with Dektora in Act 3you can track how you're doing until you let her go
[21:50] <Grogbot> <Henke37> it's not so much a proper debugger as it's just a simple console
[21:50] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> The command should be:
[21:50] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> friend 3 0
[21:51] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> you need to be at more than 50 points when you get to the upper room
[21:51] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> And how is the console accessed?
[21:51] <Grogbot> <Henke37> ctrl-d
[21:51] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> Ctrl+D
[21:51] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Ah coolio
[21:52] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> and removed by pressing Esc
[21:52] <Grogbot> <Henke37> there is an exit command too
[21:52] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> This will certainly come in handy while I contiue to search for nasty kipple bugs ;D
[21:52] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> 😃 let me know what you find
[21:53] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Will do!
[21:55] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> I'm assuming you need to check via command, rather than just merely check the debug.
[21:56] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> The command is "friend 3 0" for Dektora's friendliness towards McCoy
[21:56] <Grogbot> <Henke37> that assumption is so faulty that it's not even wrong
[21:56] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Lol
[21:57] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> So far.... don't touch her flowers! That's a negative 2 points on your "Game" meter. ;P
[21:58] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> It is. Although not always actually 😄
[21:59] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Curious. This game gives me a headache. XD
[21:59] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> I know all about that
[22:01] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> And now I know I'll end up obsessively checking all the characters' changes in friendliness. This is going to be a long weekend. XD
[22:01] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> lol
[22:02] <Grogbot> <Henke37> you could do what i do and write your own debugger that runs along with the game
[22:02] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> The developers never really explained the friendliness mechanic very well. It's there (although underused)
[22:02] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> That would be quite sexy indeed. Albiet, a tad out of my expertise level. XD
[22:03] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> and it's counterintuitive with the adventure game logic of clicking every option and on everything
[22:03] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> I really like it though
[22:03] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> That would certainly explain the headaches. With restored content, no doubt the click-everything-ever approach skews the results obtainable in the vanilla game.
[22:04] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> Currently not as much as you would expect
[22:04] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> And until I find the root cause, I'll have to be careful. I mean.... a 66 friend level on Clovis. No wonder he keeps calling. >_>
[22:04] <Grogbot> <Praetorian> lol

[22:31] <Grogbot> <Henke37> it's not too bad. i've done most of the heavy lifting
[22:31] <Grogbot> <Henke37> start by managing to make your own build of scummvm in visual studio
[22:32] <Grogbot> <Henke37> you will be reading the source code so you might as well do it even if you can find an existing build
[22:33] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> Yikes, a bit out of my league. That said, I'd certainly like to at least try something like that. XD
[22:33] <Grogbot> <Henke37> from there on, try building and running my debugger as is. it currently focuses on the scumm engine. https://github.com/henke37/Scummvm-braindrain
[22:34] <Grogbot> <Henke37> as they say, anyone can learn how to code. of course, that doesn't mean that it will be easy
[22:34] <Grogbot> <Henke37> some people are just naturals. and other never really get past beginner level
[22:35] <Grogbot> <JoesGuy> I'd like to believe there's a chance I can get my head around it. But it's also possible I'm in that latter category. XD
