[00:11] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> but with the sep 1 release , my indiana jones fate of atlantis stop working after i beat the doorman in new york (first 5min)
[00:12] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> 😉
[00:12] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> tested 3 time in a row
[00:15] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> quick question , for a multi-disc game like phantasmagoria , how i should arrange the files in my folder for scummvm to recognize and play them ?
[00:15] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> did i have to have ALL the files from the 7 discs inside a single folder ?
[00:18] <Grogbot> <Henke37> depends on the game
[00:18] <Grogbot> <Henke37> but in general scummvm prefers files to be all in one directory, using only the names to separate them
[00:19] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> problem is that i dont know how to prepare my folder and name thoses files
[00:19] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> did scummvm need ALL of them or partial one like blade runner ?
[00:19] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> partial ones
[00:19] <Grogbot> <Henke37> again, depends on the game
[00:20] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> phantasmagoria 1
[00:25] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> man so many files....
[00:26] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> I unzipped the CD1 iso on the folder
[00:27] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> now trying to do the 2th CD in the same folder , it say : the following files already exists 37.MAP and ask me if i want to keep or replace it with the very same file ....so what i should do ?
[00:29] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> see https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles#All_SCI32_.28SCI2.2F3.29_games
[00:29] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> yes , yes to all , rename , rename all , no , no to all , cancel , help (here lol)
[00:30] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> oh thanks SupSuper
[00:30] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> 🙂
[00:37] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> Directories that exist on multiple discs (e.g. ROBOT and VMD directories) must be merged together, not replaced.
[00:37] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> merged mean mixed together after being renamed ?
[00:38] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> please dont forget i originally speak/write in french 🇲🇫
[00:38] <-- dreammaster left irc: Ping timeout: 252 seconds
[00:38] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> 😩 💩
[00:43] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> so my files on CD1 must be renamed like that : RESSFX.01.SFX ?
[00:59] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> it means: - combine contents of subfolders (don't rename) - overwrite files that exist in multiple CDs, except: - rename RESOURCE.SFX and RESOURCE.AUD of each cd (RESSFX.001, RESSFX.002, etc) - only copy PDOCO.TXT from first cd (don't replace with the same file from other CDs)
[01:01] <-- Asterisk left irc: Ping timeout: 248 seconds
[01:02] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> - combine contents of subfolders (don't rename)
[01:02] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> ok
[01:03] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> I done everything else , now i will combine contents of everysubfolder
[01:03] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> note that it's .001 not .01
[01:04] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> yup , i seen this 🙂
[01:10] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> I keep the original disc one content & subfolder , I combine everything of subfolders into the ones on disc one ....if the names of the files in the ROBOT subfolder for exemple are the same , i simply accept to change them all that right ? or i have to rename all of them ..
[01:10] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> damn its more complex than i expected
[01:10] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> lol
[01:10] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> yes just replace all. only resource is important
[01:10] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> k
[01:11] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> it's simpler if you think of it as "copy and overwrite everything into one folder except resource files and pdoco"
[01:12] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> would be nice if it was more automated though
[01:13] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> if i only want to play in french , i assume i can delete the others language subfolders ?
[01:14] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> don't know, better test it first
[01:25] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> wow...its a lots of job
[01:28] <Grogbot> <markamiga500> ok, finished transfering the subfolders files inside the disc 1 ones

[04:44] <Grogbot> <SupSuper> @Trembyle i don't think detection tables affect how the game plays but that's @sluicebox department
[04:45] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> It's more that some of the Data files have the same file names on each disc with different data.
[04:46] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> Is there a way to specify which disc they come from and have the engine recognize that?

[05:05] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> I haven't played phantasmagoria and I don't know what that comment in the detection tables means. My guess is the same as yours, that some discs have data files with the same name like blade runner
[05:05] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> What is the fix for Blade Runner?
[05:06] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> rename the files to what scummvm expects
[05:06] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i don't know why this isn't the same thing (maybe it could be)

[05:19] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> I didn't find any new bugs
[05:19] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> Great! In all probability you are the first person to do that
[05:21] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> I hope more people try it. The hard part is getting the files out of a Mac file system.
[05:21] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> haha YEAH
[05:22] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> Did you actually pull them off Mac-formatted floppies?
[05:22] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> I can't imagine many people going through that step as well
[05:26] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> I'd like to get a USB floppy drive one of these days, but that would certainly be an extra step to handle formats from other computers, if that's even possible
[05:27] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> 800k disks
[05:27] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> it would be cool if someone could figure out how to get a usb mac floppy drive to work with a vm
[05:28] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but the vm software that kind of device pass through works well on, vmware, doesn't help with classic mac
[05:29] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> It looks like HFS disks were readable until OSX 10.5.8
[05:29] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> released 2007
[05:31] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> The USB passthrough would work on most VMs to older OS X versions, right?
[05:32] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> yes, if the x86 osx 10.5.8 can run in vmware, then i have hope you could use a usb mac flopp drive with it
[05:33] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> Is the drive physically different? or were there "universal" format drives?
[05:34] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> it's that first step that's hard, because apple is jerks, so getting OS X running in a vm always requires some underhanded patching, and i wouldn't expect anyone to have bothered with such an old one
[05:35] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> i don't really know if there is a hardware difference, my experience trying to get a usb mac floppy drive working years ago under any circumstance suggested that there was, but i don't know for sure
[05:35] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> but if i had an old x86 osx running in vmware i would bet money that it would work

[05:37] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> are there any unsupported games where it would help to have another copy for comparison?
[05:38] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> checking eBay to see how often these come up ...
[05:38] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> all i know is the sierra games and all of the ones i know had only mac version, so i think that's covered
[05:39] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> GK1 is $115
[05:39] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> free shipping though!
[05:40] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> Is there anything I can do to help with GK1 by the way? I tried it with my copy and it wouldn't start at all in ScummVM.
[05:42] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> I'm afraid not, there has been no work on that in 2 years and the person who was working on it is gone
[05:43] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> It's low priority, and now that I've decompiled it and seen that there are no changes it at all, it's even lower priotity as far as I'm concerned. The one change they made was to remove an easter egg. Literally the opposite of what I was looking for.
[05:46] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> I don't know how close it is to working, but think of all that effort, plus the effort a user would have to put in to extract the mac data files, all to.... play the floppy version instead of the CD version with actors and bug fixes? You can already play the DOS floppy version, it's the same
[05:46] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> well it sounds different
[05:47] <Grogbot> <sluicebox> the differences are all in how the resource files are laid out, under the hood stuff, it's the exact same scripts as dos. i've run it in a vm, it's the same
[05:49] <Grogbot> <Trembyle> I am interested in the sound driver differences. But there are some issues to work out with that still.

[17:35] <bgK> @markamiga500: This is a test build of ResidualVM for the PS3 I did a few years ago: https://ufile.io/de0v9vbq. It should run Grim Fandango using the software renderer. You'll see it does not run at full speed. Also the mouse cursor is not visible in the GUI, so you need to add the game in the configuration file, and start it using a keyboard.
