[03:20] <grogbot> <trembyle> eriktorbjorn: I can confirm that there is clipping in the Windows version. It's not terrible but with headphones, it's noticeable.
[03:21] <grogbot> <trembyle> I had no problem running the game in ScummVM with MPEG videos.
[03:22] <grogbot> <trembyle> Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the game running in a VM. I could put more time into it and probably get it running. Is that really worth it?
[03:22] <grogbot> <trembyle> This is to confirm that the original game does not have volume controls.
[05:21] <Scummette> [scummvm] mgerhardy pushed 2 new commits to master: https://git.io/JZmtK

[05:21] <Scummette> scummvm/master 39171a1 mgerhardy: TWINE: exit scenery view on showing text
[05:50] <eriktorbjorn> trembyle: Ok. I don't know if anything can be done about the clipping then. I guess it depends on whether clipping is introduced during decoding or if it was already there when the audio was encoded.

[07:28] <grogbot> <trembyle> If you don't hear the clipping on Linux, didn't that mean it must be introduced during recording?
[07:28] <grogbot> <trembyle> I'll take a look at the mpeg files in the morning to confirm this
[07:30] <grogbot> <trembyle> I haven't played around with this much. Are there also mpeg files for znemesis?

[07:42] <Scummette> scummvm/master ef01a6a Strangerke: TRECISION: Turn _drawTextLines into an array of Common::String
[07:47] <eriktorbjorn> trembyle: Well, I've only played it with speakers, not headphones, and I didn't turn up the volume particularly loud. When I made the hack to amplify the volume on the MPEG cutscenes, I tried to match the original volume by ear, but also added debug messages to make sure it didn't clip too badly. I don't remember if I even looked at the output from the low resolution cutscenes in that detail.
[07:54] <eriktorbjorn> I wonder (as i'm sure I've wondered before) if there would be any point in trying to add support for the Mac version of Rex Nebular. I have the game, but I don't know if the resources are in the same format or not. They are obviously packaged differently. The DOS version appears pack a bunch of individual resources into .hag files, while the Mac data files use resource forks.
[07:57] <eriktorbjorn> Some of the mapping seems obvious enough, e.g. SECTION7.HAG in the DOS version presumably correspond to Section VII Data in the Mac version, but as for the rest...

[13:24] <grogbot> <antoniou79> @rootfather @lephilousophe do we have a place where we document the differences between the Windows snapshots and the Windows dev builds from buildbot? https://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16303
[13:25] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> I don't think we have
[13:25] <grogbot> <antoniou79> Also this user wrote that the snapshot had the "return to launcher" option enabled, but the dev build did not which sounds odd.
[13:27] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> this last one is suspicious
[13:28] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> and I don't understand what is daily build and what is Windows snapshot?
[13:29] <grogbot> <rootfather> it depends on where the user downloaded it
[13:29] <grogbot> <rootfather> build with release toolchain is whats distributed via downloads.scummvm.org or downloads/#daily
[13:30] <grogbot> <rootfather> I don't know what the buildbots builds do - since my builds are the release toolchain anyways 😛
[13:30] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> yes but which one is which? 🙂
[13:30] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> for buildbot you have the configure line on the buildbot
[13:30] <grogbot> <rootfather> I don't understand
[13:31] <grogbot> <rootfather> https://www.scummvm.org/downloads/#daily are my builds
[13:31] <grogbot> <rootfather> with optimizations and stuff
[13:31] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> https://buildbot.scummvm.org/#/builders/22/builds/1192/steps/3/logs/stdio
[13:31] <grogbot> <rootfather> But the codebase for the buildbot builds and my builds is the same
[13:31] <grogbot> <rootfather> so I don't know what the user is referring to
[13:32] <grogbot> <rootfather> since they offer the same functionality
[13:32] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> @rootfather yes but when user on forums says "daily build" is it yours or buildbot?
[13:32] <grogbot> <rootfather> It depends on what the user downloaded 😄
[13:32] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> yes that was I meant from the start 🙂
[13:32] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> I can't determine which one is which in his post
[13:32] <grogbot> <rootfather> Yeah, then we need to ask the user 😛
[13:33] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> I am not active on forums 😦
[13:33] <grogbot> <rootfather> but "I tested "ScummVM Snapshot for Windows (85M Win32 .exe sha256)"." indicates that he is using the Daily snapshots from /downloads/#daily
[13:33] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> and if we need to enable optimizations on buildbot builds to have them running OK, we can do it
[13:34] <grogbot> <rootfather> yes, MT-32 emulation heavily depends on the optimizations
[13:34] <grogbot> <rootfather> so they should be enabled there
[13:35] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> shouldn't them be forced on this part only?
[13:35] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> having unoptimized build allows easier debugging
[13:36] <grogbot> <antoniou79> The forum user was using the daily builds from buildbot initially, then switched to the snapshots (from the Downloads page), when I wrote that maybe those would perform better for MT32 emulation
[13:36] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> and for RTL, I don't know what happened
[13:36] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> if someone could test...
[13:36] <grogbot> <antoniou79> So in their posts: daily build = the dev build from buildbot, and snapshot = the one from the Downloads page
[13:37] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> yep, 2nd post was the clearer
[13:38] <grogbot> <lephilousophe> btw, is it expected to RTL instead of closing ScummVM when clicking the close button? sounds counter-intuitive for me
[13:59] <grogbot> <antoniou79> Personally speaking, I found it surprising that it also worked for clicking the close [X] window button. I didn't think it as counter-intuitive
[14:00] <grogbot> <antoniou79> I was a bit confused that the close confirmation (the other option in Misc tab) did not work for the launcher itself, but I think that is understandable too
[14:01] <grogbot> <antoniou79> iirc these were mentioned and probably briefly discussed in the PR that implemented the changes
