[17:12] <eriktorbjorn> aquadran: Ok. Speaking of renderers, "OpenGL with shaders" places subtitles differently in Grim Fandango. Is that deliberate, or also a case of it not being completed?
[17:14] <eriktorbjorn> aquadran: OpenGL and TinyGL draw them near the speaking actor, while OpenGL with shaders draw them at the bottom of the screen (kind of like how the remastered version does it, I believe).

[19:11] <grogbot> <somaen> Hmm, just did a quick attempt at fixing the getScreenBoundingBox, by diffing the two functions in the OpenGL backend, which boiled down to 3 lines or so of actual diff, then copying the full code for the EFMI one, and making the same adaptations.
[19:12] <grogbot> <somaen> That improves things a fair bit, the demo is still broken, but that seems to be the same in the OpenGL backend

[21:47] <grogbot> <Retrodude> Afaik all Humongous game subtitles were exclusively in English, mostly because past the handful that had MS-DOS releases the subtitles were not mentioned in any official game documentation like manuals and help files. There's indication that they weren't even intended for use after a time too since many later games have subtitles that are incongruous with the actual recorded dialogue or are completely unreadable
[21:50] <grogbot> <Retrodude> In the case of the Japanese versions of Putt-Putt Joins The Parade and Fatty Bear, they left the subtitles in English as a "learning tool" for kids learning the language, alongside the exclusive language selection menu before launching the game
