I've managed to build the image and compile the apk for a few configurations (pending compiling for all architectures will stable engines and all-engines) [12:55] Is there a point in putting effort to cross-compiling pkg-config? It won't do that out of the box, and it does not seem that it's needed -- the scummvm's configure may pick the pkg-config from the native system if installed, and I am unsure if that's ok or not -- it does not seem to affect anything, but I could be wrong. [12:55] Also, same for openssl. I think it will be hard to get it to compile with NDK r14b. I've made a few attempts and could not succeed at it [12:56] as far as I can tell these are issues with our official buildbot config too [12:57] the only advantage I see at using a specific pkg-config is for default paths it uses to look at packages [12:57] I usually override these paths and use the native pkg-config and it works [12:58] for Android shouldn't we provide an alternative to curl using the native http client? [12:58] because using a cross compiled openssl will prevent using the android cert store [13:05] brooksy (~borosky@095160157148.dynamic-ra-10.vectranet.pl) joined #scummvm. I am using native, no overriding of folders, and that was enough to get it set [13:26] strange [13:26] or maybe android build system already defines the PKGCONFIG_ environment variables [13:32] Ah maybe that is it. I actually run a script to set those and i probably included it and forgot [13:33] that's the most likely [13:33] timofonic (~timofonic@unaffiliated/timofonic) left irc: Ping timeout: 245 seconds [13:36] timofonic (~timofonic@unaffiliated/timofonic) joined #scummvm. I have a question for you regarding some of the demos [20:24] astlouis44: Hi :) ... Just ask :) [20:25] Hey just curious what the legality of the game demos are? [20:25] Are they free to download, or even share? [20:25] Was thinking that if they are shareware (which most of them are) then should be in the clear [20:26] I am sure they are both free to download and share. [20:26] that's why we host them... they have always been distributes freely [20:26] That's the idea of them being demos [20:27] *distributed [20:27] OK, but say one of them was hosted on another website to be playable in browser... would that be legal also? [20:28] probably. I they didn't charge for money [20:28] OK great 🙂 [20:29] yes, it's the same game demo files in a zip, just being served up by someone else in a javascript emulator [20:29] which site do you have in mind? [20:29] OK great [20:29] https://alexstlouis44.github.io/scummvm.html [20:29] Presenting.. monkey island in a browser! [20:29] oh YOU are the one serving, haha! [20:30] nice :) [20:30] i thought we were talking about archive.org/dosbox 😃 [20:30] if it's just demos it should be fine, archive.org does the same [20:30] that's so cool [20:30] archive goes beyond demos [20:31] but they HAVE demos! 😃 [20:31] lol [20:31] the internet archive has an exemption in the law [20:31] really? [20:32] well that and they run on a "if they care, they'll take it down" policy 😛 [20:32] Yeah I can see some copyrights holders not liking it regardless [20:32] they collect a lot of crap that they have to filter out later, but they'd rather collect it first just in case [20:32] other sites probably can't afford that [20:33] Disney owns the Monkey Island property now, and even though this could reach anybody through the simplicity of a URL, they'd kill it if possible [20:35] archive is basically operating like an abandonware site as far as I can tell, with the additional option to play games on a browser. [20:36] I am not complaining, it had been useful on occasion [20:40] They are only MS-DOS games on internet archive though it seems [20:43] https://archive.org/details/apple_ii_library_4am?tab=collection [20:50] like I said, there's lots more [20:52] One interesting thing is that they have archives on Games magazines too, and sometimes of the CD's that came along with them [20:52] There's probably lots of games' demos in there, if someone has the courage and time to waste [20:52] i love digging through their old shareware CDs [20:53] i have my own collection of old shareware cds. technically from swedish magazines, but most stuff is in english anyway [20:53] some of the old sneaky ones named "demos" even non-playable previews... is the one thing that bothers me [20:54] it's all ready to transfer if you know someone who wants it [20:54] I've got my own pile too [20:54] heck, solve the postage and i will send you the magazines too. [20:57] probably a lot of historians will take that, ping james or frank [21:01] Begasus (~begasus@ptr-4qba4e8tgvgh9lpdv14.18120a2.ip6.access.telenet.be) left irc: Quit: Ex-Chat [21:01] Begas_VBox (~Begasus@d54C05BEA.access.telenet.be) left irc: Quit: Vision[0.10.3]: i've been blurred! [21:11] yeah that's always the hardest [21:12] bit of a puddle between us too [21:16] That SoMI demo is interesting, I don't think I've played the demo before [21:17] which one are you referring to exactly? [21:19] The one that is linked a few messages above, playable via ScummVM with a browser [21:19] ah. [21:19] i think i actually ran that one only yesterday [21:31] JohnnyonFlame (~quassel@170.233.51.139) joined #scummvm. [22:17] @everyone Release tagging is on Friday, prepare your build machines! [22:19] i don't think pink is ready yet. the menus are still full with ampersands. [22:20] also, the menus close the instant you release the mouse button you used to open them. that's not how windows menus work. [22:21] and most, if not all, menu items are nops or just open the scummvm master menu [22:21] criezy (~criezy@host86-133-88-159.range86-133.btcentralplus.com) joined #scummvm. [22:21] #scummvm: mode change '+o criezy' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services. [22:22] and obviously, the entire theme is wrong. i am getting mac style menus on windows. [22:25] Which reminds me I should probably get that ADGF_TESTING flag out of the way for supernova before tagging. [22:27] @Henke37 what gave it away? The ADGF_UNSTABLE in the detection entries or the warning when you start it? 😜 [22:28] it's not me that's saying that it's ready. [22:29] oh I didn't catch up on the log 😦 [22:29] I think he meant "ready for testing" rather than "now stable" [22:33] I wish the buildbot could build release builds. :/ [22:33] I mean the buildbot builds are the ones that were tested the most, so it makes sense to me to use that same toolchain to build release builds.' [22:34] Otherwise what is the purpose of nightly builds, if release builds might be done with completely different compiler versions, libraries etc. [22:34] So could exhibit all kinds of problems not apparent in the dailues [22:36] I suppose there's a way to use the buildbot server for that purpose? Manually? Is it encouraged or discouraged? [22:39] release builds would be too slow to build regularly. though they might also be closer to the final product for testing (optimizations etc.) [22:39] can you download the buildbot toolchain and make your own builds? [22:41] No. [22:42] But I have a docker-based instance of the same toolchain here, for Vita. [22:42] So that will work. [22:42] For Switch, I can use the latest local toolchain, shouldn't be a problem [22:43] For PSP, I actually used the buildbot server last time. But I think I can make a docker instance locally to use the exact same toolchain. So yes, I have the same version locally. So should all be good I guess. [22:47] Still it seems an error prone thing, to build releases on different machines, different toolchais, than dailies. [22:47] Especially since builds depend on ENV vars potentially. [22:48] Which I hate in general btw. this dependence on external stuff. Meh.
