[02:19] <grogbot> <warwon> puzzled by my recent hard crashes in scummvm, two different games one from gog and the other the black calduron, just randomly kills nvlddmkm (nvidia), and requires a hard reboot. no other games or systems having issues
[02:19] <grogbot> <warwon> strangeness
[02:22] <grogbot> <warwon> any issues with the oct 5th, 2.1 build?
[02:32] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> Really sounds like a problem with the video card driver rather than ScummVM. I can only suggest try going to the options dialog in the launcher and try switching to/from OpenGL for the graphics mode.. see if that makes any difference. Also maybe try running the games in a window vs full screen as well.

[02:43] <grogbot> <warwon> ah no it's a old game problem, just one those things that doesn't make sense haha
[02:43] <grogbot> <warwon> the thirst issue*
[02:44] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> Ah, right. My mistake 🙂
[02:44] <grogbot> <warwon> gotta how love how crpytic old games are, made for kids, keeps dying from thirst when holding a full water flask :{
[02:45] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> Agreed. I'm currently working on the Ultima series, and they were particularly egregious about player hunger, particularly the early ones. The moment the food counter reaches zero, you're dead.
[02:46] <grogbot> <warwon> I often just edit those older one's as I get sick of the whole food thing
[02:46] <grogbot> <warwon> rest of the game I can handle, but older Ultimas have some crazy ass grind stuff
[02:47] <grogbot> <warwon> Wizardry, is another one that nearly made me ram a keyboard through a wall last year
[02:47] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> Agreed. In my case, adding cheat modes to turn off food checks, or make me invunerable 🙂
[02:50] <grogbot> <warwon> hunger, and repairs are always my pet peeves. I understand it's "RPG" to have that
[02:50] <grogbot> <warwon> but really, fighting a 10 level dungeon, stuck down there cause my sword broke after 9 hours, isn't fun 😛

[10:12] <grogbot> <sluicebox> i love that this has come up. the black cauldron is insane. their goal was to simplify the adventure game interface for kids by replacing the free form typing commands with function keys for LOOK/DO/USE-ITEM. brilliant! so then... they added global thirst/hunger timers that don't appear in any of the "adult" games?? i love the black cauldron, and was weaned on it, but it's one of those exhibits that suggest sierra didn't know anything

[21:26] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> sluicebox: Coincidentally, back years ago before I started spending my spare time on ScummVM, I actually ported Black Cauldron to AGS as a proper point-and-click adventure, and released both the compiled game and source I wrote. You can pretty easily find it by searching for Black Cauldron AGS
[21:27] <grogbot> <sluicebox> oh, that's cool! i was impressed by how many little things in that game i never found as a kid; like i never knew there was that hole behind the wine cask that you could fall down
[21:28] <grogbot> <sluicebox> maybe less surprisingly, i never found the hole in the wall with leisure suit larry stuff on the other side or whatever that message was
[21:28] <grogbot> <DreamMaster> Though I did do it years ago.. I can't remember much about how I extracted original assets, so it's also possible I missed something
