[15:01] [discord] Since the project is fully powered by the work from volunteers, the choice of which engines are being worked on is driven by the interests from those volunteer developers. As for the criteria for officially adding an engine to the project, and the discussion that takes place, this is covered in . But engines can also be developed as separate projects if they do not fit tho [15:06] [discord] lol I just spent a day trying to figure out why none of the versions I own would add to scummvm 2.8.0 .. good to know 😉 [15:19] [scummvm] tag2015 pushed 3 new commits to master: https://is.gd/oyGNNg [15:19] scummvm/master 981c202 tag2015: AGS: Add AGSBMFontRenderer plugin stub [15:19] scummvm/master e18c486 tag2015: AGS: Disable autosave for falconcity [15:19] scummvm/master 8584e74 tag2015: AGS: Add a couple new games to detection [15:23] [discord] (This was for Might and Magic World of Xeen btw) where should bugs be reported? And that some of them are for RPGs, Macromedia Director presentations and text adventures rather than point and click adventures. [15:36] [discord] <_happyferret> Personally, I like the way this is going. I see ScummVM as almost a universal porting framework for those 80s, 90s and early 2000s games. [15:54] [discord] The support you described evolved from Point and Click Engines which also supported those games ie. Director supports a fair number of PoC games but also a lot that are out of that scope; EOB and Lands of Lore are extensions of the Kyra engine. GLK is partly as Text Adventures are the ancestors of PoC ie. Adventure became Zork which became PoC for later games, softp*rn became Leisure Suit Larry etc. [15:55] [discord] So more an expansion into the adjacent possible space of games.... Though DoomVM is possible, if only to complete Hopkins FBI support 😉 [16:04] sev (~sev@scummvm/sev) left irc: Quit: This computer has gone to sleep [17:28] [discord] bugs.scummvm.org [18:15] ldevulder (~ldevulder@2a01:e0a:4f3:5890:ce2d:e0ff:fe68:3ff5) left irc: Ping timeout: 268 seconds [18:34] ldevulder (~ldevulder@2a01:e0a:4f3:5890:ce2d:e0ff:fe68:3ff5) joined #scummvm. [18:58] [discord] This may be a repeat of a very old bug: https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/10547 [18:58] [discord] Unfortunately, the music code in Xeen is, from memory, a hot mess of complicated state logic, that's difficult in the extreme to try and debug.. not only because a problem could have occurred dozens of game frames across, and only becomes noticeable at a certain point. And music, unfortunately, harder to diangose in general. If it were a wrong pixel, for example, I could set a memory breakpoint to find out when the pixel is set. Bu [18:59] [discord] Okay, let me calm down. Dealing with sound card has always been a sore spot for me that I loathe, particularly in cases like Xeen where the game doesn't use a standard sound format I can simply dump into ScummVM's audio code, and instead constructs everything manually [19:08] [discord] I hear you! It's like printers in local IT 😉 [19:08] [discord] I have a friend who develops VST plugins that precisely emulate SID chips, OPL chips, etc. and includes a VGM player... I learned a lot how everyone just implemented things how they saw fit back in those days, making accurate replay very difficult. [19:08] [discord] Thanks for the insight! [19:08] [discord] (and yeah, it's that bug) [19:09] [discord] any plans to use/include the SB driver? [19:14] [discord] Not personally. If another of the game's sound driver were to be disassembled and reimplemented, it would be better for someone to work on the MIDI driver, since I know that's been requested several times. [19:14] [discord] From what I've seen in the dosbox discord, Xeen has programming issues all over the place [19:14] [discord] not just the music [19:15] [discord] I'm not surprised haha [19:15] [discord] At the moment, I'm taking a break after working on the M4 engine to putter around with stuff.
