[00:15] [discord] The problem is the exe needs to run in win32 but the game needs to run in 16 bit color. [00:19] [discord] ah, 16 bit *color* right. For that, I thought VirtualBox came with a driver that supported that on Win98? I haven't tried it though so not sure [00:21] [scummvm] dwatteau opened pull request #6505: BACKENDS: FS: Use stat() fallback for all unexpected dirent d_type values (master...fix/backends-fs-posix-d_type-stat-fallback) https://is.gd/wc7HUs [00:27] @tictokh I saw a forum post suggesting that the DAX files in Pool of Radiance for Amiga were compressed with a well-known algorithm called "ByteKiller", at least in one version. It might be worth looking at that algorithm to see if it helps your work. [00:35] gsi_ (~gsi@user/gsi) joined #scummvm. [00:39] gsi (~gsi@user/gsi) left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds [00:52] @michaeldarkwolf1977 What's the host system? If it's a modern Windows environment, there is apparently an app compatibility setting (Shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Reduce color mode). If you're trying to run under Wine on Linux, you'll need to start a (separate) display with 16-bit color depth and run Wine there. [01:00] Ultimately though, running the game standalone is not really a ScummVM issue (unless I'm misunderstanding something). [01:00] ScummVM does list support for "Crazy Nick's Software Picks: Leisure Suit Larry's Casino" (sci:cnick-lsl) and I would expect ScummVM to handle color depth stuff for you. [01:01] [discord] Larry's Casino is a different one [01:07] Ah yep I was misunderstanding, I see that. ScummVM doesn't claim any support at all for Leisure Suit Larry's Casino (1998). The rest still applies, though. [01:12] Apparently Leisure Suit Larry's Casino (1998) uses DirectDraw 5, so it's possible that the third-party DirectDraw replacement "CnC-DDraw" will help. That's really getting far away form ScummVM, though, so you'd need to find support elsewhere. [03:01] [discord] On the forums you will be talking to the same people as here, or even fewer, since not all devs check the forums regularly. [03:01] [discord] The game you are trying to run is not supported by ScummVM, so we will not be able to help properly. [03:01] [discord] But since the game you mentioned was designed for win3.1, dosbox, and especially dosbox-x or dosbox-staging, have a decent support for win 3.1. [03:01] [discord] Thus, you may try dosbox, or as it was mentioned, try a VM environment like pcem or 86box [03:31] [discord] You are aware that there are 2 diffrent Leisure Suit Larry's Casino? I'm refering to the one that came out in 1998 after Leisure Suit Larry 7 which came out in 1997. This Casino game can not play in Scumm or Dosbox because it is a windows game. Compatable with Windows 98. Unfortunatly my Pentium 1 is long gone. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, But I was unable to find anywhere else to ask. [03:45] [discord] I explicitly said the game you are trying to run is not supported by ScummVM [03:45] [discord] Please re-read my reply again, without skipping sentences [03:46] [discord] And use any search engine like Google for learning about pcem or 86box [04:17] [discord] I didn't skip and I tried ths 86box and it didn't do anything. [04:21] [discord] Then were on the same page [04:30] @michaeldarkwolf1977 As everyone is saying, the game is not supported by ScummVM so you can't really expect support here in the ScummVM chat. Do consider re-reading my tips about color-depth compatibility mode and CnC-DDraw -- and then re-read the part about finding support elsewhere.
