I was wondering something. I feel a little nostalgic and got out my old windows games collection from back in 1995. I preserved my old collection and I found Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed. [04:00] [discord] I know it sounds like a long stretch to ask, but is it possible to play this game using ScummVM? I've been a long time supporter of ScummVM. I've played with it on almost all my systems whether or not it's portable or on an old MP3 player. I understand I could go back in time with my old OS to play but without needing to emulate or use a virtual machine. If not it's cool 😀 [04:41] [discord] It's not supported, and I doubt it will ever be given that it's not a point-and-click adventure game, which is primarily what ScummVM is focused on. [05:14] [discord] Thank you for you're time. Like I said it's cool if not. I figured that would've been my answer. Mad Dog? ... Are we in for a treat with Dragon's Lair, Space Ace... [16:33] [discord] Ah that's the MS dos sources. I'm using Dolphin for Nintendo Wii source which looks top next to ms dos, and PSP version for Dragon's Lair. [16:34] [discord] Laserdisc games... I only saw once in my life mad dog arcade as a kiddo [16:34] [discord] I thought 'graphics can't get moer real than that' 😆 [16:36] [discord] I thought 'graphics can't get more real than that' 😆 (edited) [17:04] [discord] I wonder if that means ScummVM will support laser disc games that MAME does not currently. [17:05] [discord] For years, MAME has slowly added support for some of those, but not Space Ace or Dragon's Lair because both are being actively sold. [17:06] [discord] We've got an engine for some readysoft games in a private repo, for the CD dos version [17:11] [discord] I have the Wii compilation anyway lol [17:14] ccawley2011_ (~ccawley20@2a06:61c1:d9b8:0:9d57:dc18:cc6f:3ce5) joined #scummvm. [17:15] [discord] I mean, it's kind of not the same thing anyway. The rereleases upgrade things and remaster the laserdisc videos. [17:15] [discord] Remember Don Bluth animated them, so they have analog source material [17:17] ccawley2011 (~ccawley20@2a06:61c1:d9b8:0:9d57:dc18:cc6f:3ce5) left irc: Ping timeout: 268 seconds [17:21] [discord] Actually, we already supported rail shooters such as Wetlands and Soldier Boyz [17:51] [discord] And the Game of the Year of Every Year: Plumbers Don't Wear Ties [17:56] [discord] I don't think ScummVM has ever had a similar stance on active games except for the Out of This World/Another World incident. The V-Cruise games were all still in print when that engine got added. [18:00] [discord] (And technically I've also been refraining from doing Systems Twilight because Andrew Plotkin explicitly declined the opportunity when I asked and I think it'd be a bit in bad taste to go do it anyway) [18:07] [discord] Any reason for he gave? [18:17] [discord] https://blog.zarfhome.com/2009/10/systems-twilight-turns-fifteen [18:17] [discord] Basically covered in the second half of this. He released a Mini vMac image with it but doesn't want to do a re-release. I kinda asked if he'd reconsider and offered to do it and he declined. [18:17] [discord] Not as hard of a "no" as "I don't want anyone doing it" but feels like a bit of an end-run, idk. [18:39] [discord] First time I hear about System's Twilight. Looks so good 😮 [18:42] Begasus (~Begasus@user/Begasus) left irc: Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred! [18:53] [discord] That's unfortunate. I had a similar experience when I contacted the author if this game if a port to ScummVM would be feasible. He declined, saying that he doesn't want to put work into it albeit I promised that there was barely anything to do from his side. [18:53] [discord] I think he was also a bit shy to show the code to foreigners, which is understandable. [18:53] [discord] Sad nevertheless. [18:53] [discord] http://www.timanfaya-game.de/ [18:56] [discord] Maybe I'll change my mind on it later, it's not like I ever asked anyone else's permission, but right now I'm super busy slogging through getting Anachronox working.
