[17:57] <grogbot> [discord] <.eriktorbjorn> When the Infocom source code leaked some years ago, I was amused to find that in one game there were functions called `COMPILER-SUCKS-EXP` and `COMPILER-SUCKS-EXP-2`.

[18:28] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> I have a question. I'm playing Police Quest 2 in Scumm VM. I'm at the end of the game in the sewer. I keep getting killed by the methaine gas because my OS runs the game too fast. Is Scumm VM not capable of slowing down the game or can only DOS do it? Because if that's a case that means I have to play the game all the way from the beginning. This is why I miss my Tandy 1000.

[19:40] <grogbot> [discord] <sev____> @sluicebox could be interesting in knowing more details, particularly the savegames
[19:50] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> What do you mean? It's not that complicated. My computer processes the game to fast that aftwr getting to the 3rd screen I did from the gas. You can't get to the mask fast enough. Idk what save games have to do with it. I could do a video if that helps.
[19:55] <grogbot> [discord] <sev____> I personally did not play this game much, so I was assumed that the problem appears later in the game, no t on the third screen. In that case, a savegame and steps to reproduce would help with solving the problem
[20:03] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> It won't make a difference. The reason why it's having problems is because the operating system is running the game too fast for the game. I'm 47 and played this game on my Tandy 1000. You youngin's probally never heard of that computer. It was a 16 bit computer. But my brother broke it in the 90s.
[20:04] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> Is there a place where I can share a video of it? Or I could post it on youtube and share the link. I'm not a fan of discord and for good reason.

[20:17] <grogbot> [discord] <dwa> sev worked on PDP clones while being a teen you know, so he does know what a Tandy 1000 is 😄
[20:17] <grogbot> [discord] <dwa> we're asking for a savegame to make the bug analysis faster, that's it
[20:18] <grogbot> [discord] <dwa> you can put the video link, bug summary + save / reproducer on https://bugs.scummvm.org
[20:18] <grogbot> [discord] <dwa> thanks
[20:26] <grogbot> [discord] <sev____> Yes, you can record it on Youtube and share here. Also MP4 uploads here will work as well
[20:30] <grogbot> [discord] <sev____> @michaeldarkwolf1977 in general, your problem sounds a bit strange, because we were implementing throttling of execution to the AGI games. I myself even added some delays to simulate floppies
[20:30] <grogbot> [discord] <sev____> maybe, some of it was lost when we rewrote gfx output in the engine couple years ago

[22:52] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> i just tested on mine with a local
[22:53] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> with a local build (dev 2.10.0) and 2.9.0. I can pass through the pocket gas. It needs a bit of speed, but not that much.
[22:54] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> It may be easier if you control the character with the arrow keys instead of the mouse, but it's doable with the mouse too
[22:59] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> I did use the keyboard but I cant go Diagonal, because I'm using it on a laptop which doesn't have those buttons. Also, it doesn't matter because even if I ran as fast as I could in the game. It's still not enough time. Trust me I did it five times
[23:00] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> I can't control them with the keyboard because I can't walk diagonal
[23:01] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> I just keep falling in the water
[23:01] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> with a mouse you pretty much need to only click twice. Once in the corner straight ahead of Sony and once below the second horizontal tile line from the bottom (this second click you ll do when Sony becomes visible after the column
[23:02] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> It doesn't matter whether I use the mouse or the keyboard.I can't walk far enough.I just did it now two times with just a keyboard and he can't get pass that part
[23:02] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> The dangerrous screen is only the one where you died. You can save in the screen before for convenience. Also, if you're late with your first click you can go left back to the safe screen to avoid death and restore
[23:03] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> In the video your last click is too high. Sony has to walk to a tile below that to be safe
[23:04] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> Okay, apparently you can get past it.I was under the impression that the gas was throughout the entire sewer.I didn't realize it was in that 1 spot but I am playing a game.I haven't played in like forty years
[23:12] <grogbot> [discord] <michaeldarkwolf1977> They really give you barely enough time to escape from that spot
[23:18] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> it's been a while since I had played this part too. There might be another way past this, I just tried to walk the path like you did in the video. I vaguely remember that you could find some masks for the gas, but I may be confusing it with another game.
[23:18] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> Anyway, that's Sierra games of that era for you I guess. Lots of ways to die, and sometimes perhaps not so much playtested
