[03:33] <Deledrius> It's a common tongue-twister, and the normal word for it is "bumpers"
[03:34] <Deledrius> Makes sense some use it as a warm-up phrase.
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> Hello . I've been trying for a while to make sense of the help documentation to no avail primarily because I'm not very well versed in PC graphics in general, and as a mech eng I am quite bad at understanding 1's and 0's in general.
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> Im hoping someone could help me with figuring out what the best graphical options are in my case. I really only play the BY sports games on scumm, mainly baseball 03 now that the others are available via steam. I'd like to play as close to optimally as possible in terms of performance without the game looking like potatoes.
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> And also I'm wondering if there's anything about the games themselves (the scumm engine BY sports games), the way they were coded, etc - that would be impacted performance wise by the graphical settings chosen in ScummVM (for example, at some settings, after tinkering endlessly - so i don't really remember which - when batting in BYB and trying to change stances as a pitch is thrown, occasionally I'll have 0.5s or so worth of lag swit
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> I play exclusively on 64bit windows 11, CPU-12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (2.30 GHz), 32 GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3050Ti GPU (laptop version)...aka a Dell XPS 15 (9520 from 21/22). 3456x2160 resolution 15.6" OLED screen. Pretty serviceable for a laptop.
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> Another thing I'm not sure about is whether i should be changing any of the graphical/display setting on windows 11 settings. Like auto HDR and the newly added option "optimizations for windowed games"
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> I can appreciate this is highly specific to me and a singular use case but I would be most grateful if anyone has some easy tips or answers that I can't seem to figure out myself after hours of trying to understand all the pieces and how they could interact with each other.
[03:41] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> I'm ok with the game only taking up about 2/5 of my screen so I'm not squinting to see the ball, and also ok with it looking a little crappy - I'm really trying to understand what are the settings that's going to make the game run buttery smooth to the best of its ability. And yes I realize that probably would mean running at centered at 640x480 but I don't need glasses at the moment and would love to keep it that way.
[03:48] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> fwiw my best guess at the best options for me

[03:48] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> and putting my display in windows to 1920x1440
[05:05] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> This is just how the engine was programmed, it does frame pacing using internal delays, there is no fixing that, as it was a design decision from the original SCUMM developers
[05:32] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> Interesting...it doesnt always seem noticeable....so i can kind of just got buck wild then and play with my display settings at full resolution and fit to window and make it nearly full screen without anything being sacrificed really? or my gpu or cpu is good enough that its not really an issue? i guess that confirms my worst fear which is its all a skill issue in the first place
[05:33] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> (like the average joe golfer i would prefer to place the blame on everything but my own ability)
[05:33] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> Well it's strange really, the ScummVM app itself shouldn't have much of an overhead, unless your machine is old enough
[05:33] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> are there any issues with openGL and nvidia gpus? i vaguely recall some forum threads about that
[05:34] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> I don't think so, not that I know of, I have one myself
[05:34] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> are there arent any issues with openGL and nvidia gpus? i vaguely recall some forum threads about that (edited)
[05:34] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> Maybe you have some sort of power saving setting?
[05:34] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> If it's a laptop
[05:35] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> It does happen to me (well, to the entire OS really) that it slows down when the power is not connected)
[05:35] <grogbot> [discord] <depaf679> its always plugged in so hopefully not. can the windows 11 settings fight against what the software is trying to do though? like that optimize windowed games setting? or is that only for games that use directX 8/9+
[05:35] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> I wouldn't know, it shouldn't pose any issue
[05:36] <grogbot> [discord] <bosca_bo> Even on an underpowered Linux VM the game runs like it runs on its original EXE

[06:49] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> For my Srceenshot Friday, this past week, apart from miscellaneous bugfixes and briefly completely borking up Buildbot, I've been working on adding support for the Hodj n' Podj demo. It's basically a cobbled together intro splash screens and videos, followed by the game's standalone minigame selection map. But only a few of the minigames are supported. And many of the remaining squares lead to various humorous "marketing hype" dial
