[00:48] Nick change: Stormkeeper -> Storm-AFK [00:51] dafioram: re 10247, is it only the start of chapter 5 that has no music? [00:52] the 1.x versions of KQ7 did not have a complete music library for non-General MIDI devices, but i thought i had forced it to GM. [00:52] i only checked that area. when the game starts it plays the kq7 theme music [00:53] it does work on windows tester os just fine though [00:53] https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/9789 [00:54] does your linux device have general midi support? [00:54] i am wondering if not having any general midi devices is causing a fallback to an unsupported audio device. [00:55] I am not sure how to test that [00:56] well, for starters, is it an FM synth or wavetable synth playing the music? [00:59] it connects to an Alsa sequencer client does that answer your question? [01:00] Port Client name Port name [01:00] 14:0 Midi Through Midi Through Port-0 [01:00] 16:0 Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1371 [01:00] ok [01:01] if you run songlib in the debugger while the music isnt play, what does it print? [01:05] (the sierra/kq7 logo music is just samples, not midi.) [01:07] like at the start of chapter 5, a different song plays during the cutscene. does that one play? [01:07] dafioram: ^ [01:07] let me check [01:08] no. during the verdict there is no sound [01:08] background music mean [01:08] sounds like your general midi is just broken on that device. [01:09] what does 2.0b do differently? [01:09] it has adlib support and the default music device in scummvm is adlib. [01:10] so it is probably playing with the adlib emulator built into scummvm. [01:10] so that means the midi is broken on two different linux os'es I have [01:11] that doesnt surprise me, since its kind of expensive for something nobody needs any more. [01:13] if you compile with fluidsynth, then you can choose that, it is software general midi [01:13] windows has a built-in softsynth [01:13] let me try that [01:13] you can install fluidsynth from your package manager too and then hopefully alsa will just pick that up automatically [01:17] Lightkey (~Darklock@p200300764C603D4222CF30FFFE083718.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) left irc: Ping timeout: 246 seconds [01:30] _sev_ (~sev@scummvm/undead/sev) left irc: Ping timeout: 240 seconds [01:31] Lightkey (~Darklock@p200300764C603D4322CF30FFFE083718.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) joined #scummvm. [21:39] i tried to play star fox a few months ago and i just couldnt deal with the low frame rate, so i understand where they are coming from in that regard at least [21:42] it's supernes game, and the 3D in that way was only possible because of the superfx chip [21:43] what's worse is that IGN has no problem giving games way better scores even with a really terrible frame rate [21:43] waltervn (~waltervn@541B2DBA.cm-5-4a.dynamic.ziggo.nl) left irc: Quit: Leaving [21:43] for example GTA 4 on PS3 got also a 10/10 from them despite the frame rate being really really really terrible. Like it's one of the few games that actually make my eyes bleed. it's so bad. [21:46] or Shadow of the Colossus. Got a 9.7 despite the frame rate also being really really horrible. [21:46] that one pushed the Playstation 2 to its limits. So the same would apply to Star Fox (2) [21:48] dreammaster (~dreammast@c-73-149-116-247.hsd1.ma.comcast.net) joined #scummvm. [21:51] so getting framelocked at 30fps is bad, and Star Fox is twice as bad as that at its best :) [21:56] that doesnt minimise the achievement, of course. its a great game locked in some very primitive technology. [21:57] exmensa_ (exmensa@96.31.26.199) left irc: [21:57] my memory of playing the game when it was out originally is a lot rosier than when i tried to do it again this year, thats for sure. :) [22:04] ajax16384 (~User@109.60.130.33) left irc: Quit: Leaving [22:13] GTA 4 runs at possibly around 15 fps on PS3. And it's very unstable on top. [22:13] SotC runs also way worse than 30 fps, possibly also around 15 fps. Sometimes it's almost unplayable. [22:13] and other games, that were highly rated like the Last Of Us also run terrible [22:14] also very unstable and surely not 30 fps at all [22:14] of course i would prefer 60 fps locked, but that's a rarity for anything but Nintendo games nowadays [22:14] (and of course game ports on PC, when you throw enough hardware at it) [22:15] i think we can agree that GTA4s performance is very bad. i cant even run it on my PC with acceptable frame rates with all the visual settings turned all the way down. [22:16] wow [22:16] I read that on the 360 it ran okay-ish [22:16] but as i said, the PS3 port is possibly the worst version. And I personally don't like that game anyway. I loved GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas though. [22:17] Saints Row 2 also got a terrible PC port [22:17] you can basically throw whatever hardware you want and it still runs badly. It ran okay on PS3 though. [22:18] funnily Saints Row 3 + 4 run really well. [22:18] this computer is old, but it is 4 years newer than the release date of GTA4 and it still cant run it at more than 20fps most of the time. a friend of mine can run GTA5 PC port with max settings and GTA4 still doesnt run smoothly on that computer. [22:18] i got them all via humble bundle [22:18] mine is also really old, thinkpad from 2011 or 2012 [22:19] but it's fine, because the build quality is superb and it's also using a SSD so OS runs insanely fast [22:25] ny00123 (~ny00123@2a02:ed0:6dd9:3200::2) left irc: Quit: Leaving [22:26] ignalina (~pettersjo@h-238-36.A639.priv.bahnhof.se) left irc: Quit: ignalina [22:28] Nick change: Storm-AFK -> Stormkeeper [22:30] well, i figured out the rama text rendering issue. they deleted resolution-independent scaling from the main renderer but not from the text subsystem, and so the game scripts relied on slightly larger dimensions coming out of the text subsystem because they screwed up and set the wrong text resolution during development. [22:30] as soon as i get back i will push these changes and then all the sci3 pmachine-based games are done. [22:32] #scummvm: mode change '+o Strangerke' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.
