[17:40] <CTxCB> bgK: What do you mean... I was told before here that it didn't have to be "supported" to submit Bug Reports for?! I've already had one Bug Report for PQ: SWAT fixed in the v2.1.0 Git.
[17:43] <CTxCB> On the ScummVM Bug Site Homepage, it says "Please only file bugs on games that are listed on https://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/", and Police Quest: SWAT is on that Compatibility Page.
[17:44] <Dark-Star> yes, developers work on fixes for unsupported games if they feel like it, or if it's an easy one... But there's no guarantee that such bug reports will be fixed at all
[17:44] <Dark-Star> that game being on the compatibility list probably helped your previous bug reports, and I guess at some point someone will take a look at that other one too
[17:45] <Dark-Star> but maybe the reason is even simpler: maybe none of the devs who know the engine in question has access to the game..?
[17:46] <CTxCB> Dark-Star: What can I do to resolve that? I can get access to the Room Script, if that'd help?
[17:47] <Dark-Star> hmm, you'd probably have to talk to one of the devs who knows the SCI engine, and who's willing to invest some time
[17:53] --> newsham joined #scummvm.
[17:54] <newsham> hi. I'm trying to build scummvm in a new install of the latest xcode. its complaining about not knowing where c++ headers are, and then later failing trying to #include <map>
[17:54] <newsham> i tread HEAD and origin/branch-2-0 branches.. same result

[20:16] <mataniko> CTxCB: It looks like possibly a script bug, but it could just be something in SCI32 that's not implemented overall
[20:17] <mataniko> Bugs like this get priority as an engine enters into final testing to be considered supported. It could take a while until you see some traction on it
[20:19] <CTxCB> mataniko: Ah, okay... Thanks.
[20:20] <mataniko> I know it could be frustrating to wait on these bugs but SCI is one of the most complex engines out there (a lot of things are simply hacked together by Sierra)
[20:30] <-- ignalina left irc: Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz&
[20:32] <CTxCB> mataniko: I know, its just a little annoying that DOSBox runs the game fine, but has issues with mouse movements causing RBT Videos to stutter and desync, and a little audio crackling... And ScummVM has a totally different set of problems!
[20:33] <mataniko> did you try speeding up/down dosbox?
[20:34] <mataniko> You can't really compare the two since dosbox emulates a x86 computer running DOS, and ScummVM re-implements the engines manually
[20:40] --> ignalina joined #scummvm.
[20:56] <Deledrius> Hehe, I suspect that's less of a comparison and more of a lament that the two main methods of playing are flawed in different ways. ;) It's tempting to wish some composite ability to have the best of both, in my experience.
[21:19] <CTxCB> Yeah, I'm not trying to compare DOSBox and ScummVM... I know they're not the same thing! DOSBox is a DOS Emulator targeted at Video Games, another replicates engines from Scratch... Personally with better results.
[21:22] <CTxCB> I was just complaining that both engines have different sets of problems, and not just that, but PQ: SWAT has big game flaws that I don't even think ScummVM can fix?
[21:23] <mataniko> Like what? We have generally fixed script bugs that exist in the original interpreter in the past if possible
[21:23] <mataniko> duh :(

[21:29] <CTxCB> mataniko: https://i.gyazo.com/bcfb808ac18dc70da0eb5a9fb45fd3c1.png - I mean, who wants to play a game where all Video Closeups are a tiny box that totally break any possible immersion?
[21:35] <CTxCB> Also, no video scenes can be skipped like you can in Phantasmagoria I and II, Gabriel Knight II and Rama... And that very quickly becomes boring? Obviously gameplay video shouldn't be skipped, but there is so many Training Speeches and boring Non-Mission Dialog that can't be skipped.
[21:36] <CTxCB> I mean, near the start of the game, there's a Tactics Training scene which lasts near enough 10 minutes... And it can't be skipped!
