[00:22] <Deledrius> Maybe it was some particular processor quirk they were dealing with at the time?
[00:26] <dreammaster> Maybe so, but even then, the particular calculation for the border frame was only being done once per redraw frame. So the particular instruction would only be done, roughly 50 times a second at most.

[17:11] <bonki> did you see trac 10471? I tried all stable releases since 1.8.0 and they all don't work which is weird because the game is supposed to be completable and the bug occurs so early in the game...?
[17:11] <scummvm-bugs> Ticket #10471 by Kriz1: SFINX: ScummVM crashing during projector cutscene (https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/10471)
[17:11] <Strangerke> wow, no, I didn't notice this one :(
[17:12] <Strangerke> all release since 1.8 :( Damn, it's a shame :(
[17:12] <bonki> I haven't actually double-checked but the wiki says we have supported it since 1.8.0
[17:13] <Strangerke> Last time I tested it, it was working fine... but clearly I haven't checked it for a while :(
[17:13] <Strangerke> the projector is like... after 10 minutes playing the game :/
[17:13] <bonki> and there is trac 6842 which suggests that you can get past the projector
[17:13] <scummvm-bugs> Ticket #6842 by SF/deejaydiabolik: Sfinx - Possible BUG... can't finish the game at this savepoint. (https://bugs.scummvm.org/ticket/6842)
[17:13] <bonki> exactly...but I haven't actually tried replaying the game, I only tested the attached savegame. it might be a problem with the savegame
[17:14] <Strangerke> iirc this one is an original bug, I wasn't able to fix the scripts
[17:14] <Strangerke> maybe testing the polish version would be interesting

[17:15] <bonki> ah right, 6842 concerns the translation...maybe it works in the english version (I'd be surprised, though)
[17:16] <bonki> (not the actual bug mentioned in 6842 but getting past the projector)
[17:17] <Strangerke> no 6842 is just a bug in the script
[17:17] <Strangerke> if you put the carpet on the clothes horse and pick it before hitting hit, you can't put it back to hit it. So you can't get the sand
[17:17] <Strangerke> => dead end
[17:17] <bonki> yes, what I mean is that OP apparently got past the projector
[17:17] <bonki> I'm not talking about the script bug :)
[17:18] <Strangerke> I played the game hundreds of time, I can tell you it was possible to pass the projector
[17:18] <bonki> strange
[17:18] <bonki> but that's pretty much what I wanted to know :)
[17:19] <Strangerke> I translated the game from polish to english, so I played it again, and again, and again for the translation
[17:19] <bonki> do you know Polish?
[17:19] <Strangerke> not really, even if I learned some words while translating Soltys and Sfinx
[17:20] <bonki> ah
[17:20] <Strangerke> but I have dictionnaries, it helps. And Google. And Patience ;)
[17:20] <bonki> hehe
[17:21] <Strangerke> and english speakers have been kind enough to fix all the errors I made and everything should be properly translated now :)
[17:21] <Strangerke> but of course, this crash sucks hard
[17:22] <Strangerke> I can't look at it now, but I'll have a look

[19:59] <bonki> curious, do these represent animations and all frames they are comprised of?
[20:05] <bonki> hmmm
[20:05] <bonki> isn't the problem that shpcnt gets increment even if the sprite doesn't exist?
[20:06] <bonki> if it didn't do that, wouldn't the total count always be correct?
[20:07] <criezy> No, it is already too small. If you don't increment it then it would be een worse.
[20:07] <bonki> you wrote that it is 24 while it expects 23
[20:08] <bonki> so it's the other way round?
[20:09] <bonki> I'm talking about L:432 where the increment is unconditional
[20:09] <criezy> What I wrote is correct, but I didn't write it expects 23.
[20:09] <bonki> oh, look at that...the Bitmap ctor has a workaround :D
[20:09] <criezy> There are two variables, maxnow and shpcnt. And maxnow needs to be strictly smaller than shpcnt.
[20:09] <bonki> Bitmap::Bitmap(CGE2Engine *vm, const char *fname) : _w(0), _h(0), _v(nullptr), _b(nullptr), _map(0), _vm(vm) {

[20:10] <bonki> warning("Workaround for wrong VBM name: 11oqlist-");
[20:10] <bonki> } else
[20:11] <criezy> That workaround is interresting.
[20:11] <bonki> right, I read it wrong
[20:11] <criezy> It would mean the 201 didn't need to be removed or renamed...
[20:11] <bonki> exactly
[20:11] <bonki> cunning
[20:12] <criezy> In the English 04TAL200SPR there is another comment in the SEQ section of the file:
[20:12] <criezy> .Strangerke - Remove double execution of sequence 2, as it looks ugly
[20:13] <criezy> Which could also be done for the Polish version I suppose.
[20:14] <bonki> so that prevents it from executing twice? that's the exact reason why I was asking in the first place, because that felt unnecessarily ugly...forget I said anything then
[20:14] <bonki> seems like a non-issue then

[21:37] <Dark-Star> dreammaster: the GoG version of World of Xeen has 29 tracks on its first CD?
[21:39] <-- Storm-AFK left irc: Quit: KVIrc 5.0.0 Aria http://www.kvirc.net/
[21:39] <Dark-Star> because mine has 31...
[21:43] <-- ignalina left irc: Quit: ignalina
[21:43] <dreammaster> AH. I just guessed at that, since scripts for Darkside were using "track 5", and it corresponded to 35, so I presumed the 2nd CD started at track 30.
[21:43] <dreammaster> I'll correct the README accordingly
[21:44] <Dark-Star> here'S the TOC if you want to compare it to the GoG version: https://imgur.com/a/mKZofiI
[21:45] <Dark-Star> so basically I have to rename the CD2 tracks to track2->track35 and so on?
[21:46] <Dark-Star> (CD2 has 30 tracks)
[21:46] <dreammaster> Well, sounds like if the first CD has 29 audio tracks, then the first audio track of CD2 becomes 31, 2nd 32, and so on
[21:46] <-- klusark left irc: Ping timeout: 248 seconds
[21:48] <Dark-Star> ah okay and because track 1 is data (and thus skipped) there's no conflict
[21:48] <Dark-Star> so track31.mp3 basically belongs to CD1 still, and track 32 is CD2's track 2
[21:48] <Dark-Star> makes sense now

[21:50] <Dark-Star> huh, wait, no, README's still wrong...
[21:51] <dreammaster> Oh damnit, you're right. CD1 should be track02 to track30, not 31. Right?
[21:51] <Dark-Star> no, track02...track31
[21:51] <Dark-Star> and cd2 will then start with its track2 at number 32. right?
[21:52] --> Stormkeeper joined #scummvm.
[21:53] <dreammaster> Right, right. Like in the Image you posted
[21:53] <Dark-Star> the question is: is there a gap between the two CDs track numbers (because of the skipped data track) or not?
[21:54] <Dark-Star> i.e. does "track32.mp3" exist (track 2 of CD#2) or not (track 1 of CD#2, which is data)?
[21:55] <dreammaster> Well, there's no 0 filesize ogg file. Though whatever code they (GOG) patched in to play the ogg files rather than the CD could be intentionally remapping.
[21:56] <dreammaster> If so, as long as we follow the GOG scheme for both CDs, we can simulate whatever mapping was done, just by finding any cases where the wrong speech is being played
[21:56] <Dark-Star> hmm
[21:56] <Dark-Star> problem is that my version is not a gog version, so it probably tries to play track 2 for darkside as well, not track 32
[21:57] <Dark-Star> will it still work?
[21:57] <Dark-Star> only one way to find out :)

[21:57] <dreammaster> Well, that's not a problem. They didn't actually patch all the game scripts where cmdPlayCD opcodes are used.. the track numbers is refers to are still "track 5", for example, for the Goblin King, not 35 (track35.ogg is used).
[21:58] <Dark-Star> ah okay then it should really just work as-is
[21:58] <dreammaster> Which means that GOG likely put in some hacked code to detect which game side the player is on, as part of their hack to play the OGG files rather than a physical CD audio tracks
[21:58] --> ccawley2011 joined #scummvm.
[22:00] <Dark-Star> okay it seems to work mostly fine for darkside
[22:01] <Dark-Star> the initial dialog is correct, as is the text of the cartographer

[22:19] <Dark-Star> are VBR MP3s a problem for ScummVM?
[22:21] <bonki> nope
[22:22] <Dark-Star> thought so (the other files are also VBR encoded and they play just fine)... I have no clue why it won't play that particular mp3 file...
[22:22] <bonki> anything that chokes on VBR is seriously broken, like my MP3 CD player from the last millennium :)
[22:24] <Dark-Star> heh, I had a very early portable MP3 player, it was quite a cheap one and it only came with 1 gig, but it could show all of unicode on its small LCD display, which is something even players nowadays struggle with (my car stereo still shows "?" or tofu cubes instead of kanji, for example)
[22:25] <bonki> I think it read VBR but didn't like >192 frames or something so in practice it still didn't like most VBR files I threw at it ...
[22:25] <bonki> nice

[22:30] <bonki> "Lieferumfang: Software-CD mit Tools"
[22:30] <bonki> I wonder what "tools" it came with
[22:31] <Dark-Star> hmm I might still have that CD somewhere.. I guess it was only the manual as PDF ... there was no software needed, really, as the player presented itself as a USB flash drive. all you needed was explorer (or, in my case, Total Commander ;-)
[22:33] <bonki> I never really liked total commander despite being a huge fan of norton commander and its DOS clones
[22:35] <bonki> hm, I can't remember what they were called
[22:35] <Dark-Star> there was volkof commander (or something like that) from russia... and I think "dos commander" or so?
[22:35] <bonki> one was green/black instead and I think russian
[22:35] <bonki> volkof!
[22:35] <bonki> was that the one which was also open source?
