[01:50] <grogbot> [discord] <ticokh> After quick check, I fixed alis engine linux build. SDL port is stable playing Arborea, Ishar 1-2, and few other games too out of my scope (Metal Mutants, Transartica etc.) Maybe worth to start thinking how should port under ScummVM).

[03:30] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> The games are definitely candidates. Though I checked and the code has the MIT license; that may make it problematic, unless the author agrees to allow it to be cross-licensed to GPL
[03:48] <grogbot> [discord] <thothxv> Isn't it possible to integrate MIT licensed code into a GPL codebase?z
[03:48] <grogbot> [discord] <thothxv> Isn't it possible to integrate MIT licensed code into a GPL codebase? (edited)
[03:50] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> Could be. I can't remember for sure
[03:51] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> Hopefully so, anyway, particularly since the games are actually playable 🙂
[03:53] <grogbot> [discord] <thothxv> I mean, you can definitely develop forks of MIT-licensed software under a proprietary license, or distribute the software as a part of a broader work under a proprietary license. That's why Sony can put FreeBSD on the Playstation and not release the source code (2-clause BSD and MIT seem to be equivalent).

[04:29] <grogbot> [discord] <tatundria> Hi, I am having input lag with the ScummVM games when I launch them from ES-DE on Steam Deck. Basically, they are unplayable. Do you know how to fix this?
[04:36] --> _marc` joined #scummvm.
[04:38] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> You can use MIT code in a GPL program and it'll be licensed under GPL. You can't, however, do the reverse
[04:41] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> Bonza. I've added it to the Wiki: https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=List_of_External_Projects
[04:43] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> For further reference:
[04:43] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses
[04:43] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhatDoesCompatMean
[04:44] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> There's apparently a couple "MIT License"s, but both are compatible
[04:49] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> Should also mention the alis engine should not be confused with the Alis engine https://www.alisengine.com/
[05:20] <grogbot> [discord] <dreammaster> LOL> I really do have a bad memory. It seems the alis engine was already previously mentioned on Discord, and added to the Wiki. So now we have two entries for it 😛
[05:38] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> Now someone is twice as likely to see it

[07:43] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> What is ES-DE? Can you install and run ScummVM directly?
[08:48] <grogbot> [discord] <eientei> EmulationStation Desktop Edition (<https://es-de.org/>), which is just a frontend
[09:07] --> borosky joined #scummvm.
[10:39] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> I believe we had another recent mention (here on Discord) about input lag on Steam Deck. ES-DE (EmulationStation Desktop Edition) is using Retroarch, and since I have no Steam Deck, nor have I played with ES-DE or Retroarch, I can't tell what version of ScummVM is used, or if that version has input lag issues. But that might be something to test. If the user can install and launch ScummVM directly, we would know.
[10:39] <grogbot> [discord] <antoniou79> Installing ScummVM on the Steam Deck is not very straightforward, but there's some discussion of the process -- installing via the Flatpak package of ScumnVM -- that works (and how to resolve potential issues) on our forums here <https://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=96854#p96854> and here: <https://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=98384#p98384>

[10:49] <grogbot> [discord] <madman_90882> Hey everyone ,I want to contribute in scummVM can anyone guide me
[11:57] <grogbot> [discord] <gu3> What kind of contributions?
[12:08] <grogbot> [discord] <purduecoz> With regard to this, I have found on my steam deck that launching thru emulationstation means that steam is intercepting inputs and translating them, and if its running with the emudeck setup, there can be further translations on top of that. I've had mixed results with this but your suggestion is spot on. It's much better to run the flatpak directly from steam so you know you are configuring the input exactly as desired.
