[01:18] <tsoliman> I am trying to determine if this is in fact a UK release of the game - or if I am about to buy a game that's not in the detection tables at all - I'm hoping it is the latter because the unmarked one in the detection table is explicitly marked US

[17:57] <snover> for GK2
[18:00] <tsoliman> I did a slight variation .. I used the windows "installer" tool to create a DVD from the 6 CDs .. I assume that's ok
[18:00] <snover> that should be ok
[18:01] <tsoliman> does any OS actually "replace" directories when you copy a directory and it already exists?
[18:01] <tsoliman> I assumed they get merged when you select "overwrite"
[18:01] <snover> macos :\
[18:01] <snover> you have to hold down &option, i think?
[18:01] <tsoliman> ah yes .. the secret macos key
[18:02] <tsoliman> I am fairly new to macos .. only used it for 3 years or so but heavily used it for less than a year
[18:03] <snover> http://www.howtogeek.com/198043/how-to-merge-folders-on-mac-os-x-without-losing-all-your-files-seriously/ finder is the most consistently terrible software on the planet, except maybe for spotify
[18:05] <blitter> i see your finder and raise you an iTunes :P
[18:07] <somaen> iTunes used to be quite good
[18:07] <somaen> Back when the version number was a single digit, and the iPod only supported firewire
[18:09] <somaen> As for Finder's "replace entire folder" behaviour, to be fair, it DOES warn you that that is exactly what it's going to do (although from my own experience the understanding of "replace" here is destroyed by years of being trained towards the behaviour in Windows). That's about the best excuse I can come up with for the behaviour.
[18:11] <somaen> The thing is though, that the Finder is at some points quite awesome (column view is hands down the best way I know of to navigate folders), spring loaded folders is also great, but then you suddenly realize that you can't do stuff such as "cut'n-paste" folders (IIRC they added that in one of the very latest versions).
[18:12] <somaen> But yes, that very same assumption that tsoliman had, actually cost me a folder or two before I learned. (Likewise, the original Disk Utility in OS X 10.5, that insisted upon formatting ALL partitions on a drive when you commit any partition table changes, including the ones that you DIDN'T CHANGE!.
[18:12] <somaen> )
[18:15] <tsoliman> I don't like finder but I am coming from Windows and Linux (KDE), the idea of enter=rename blows my mind (you have to press option-down or something to go in)
[18:15] <snover> +o
[18:15] <tsoliman> what's the shortcut to type the command symbol?
[18:16] <snover> +down does the same thing i guess
[18:16] <snover> i just use text replacement
[18:16] --> TMM joined #scummvm.
[18:16] #scummvm: mode change '+o TMM' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.
[18:16] <tsoliman> text replacement drove me nuts on replacing ' and --
[18:17] <tsoliman> so I did some "defaults" magic to turn it off
[18:17] <snover> well, that is smart quotes substitutions, not text replacement substitutions :)
[18:17] <snover> text replacement is one of the few good features of macos :) but i digress heavily off topic.
[18:17] <tsoliman> :D
[18:24] <somaen> Oh, yes, disable the auto-correct crap
[18:24] <somaen> First thing I do
[18:28] <tsoliman> why is GK2 trying to open /dev/sequences when I said my default midi is fluidsynth
[18:29] <snover> i couldnt tell you as it does not use midi at all
[18:29] <tsoliman> WARNING: SCUMMVM_MIDI environment variable not set, using /dev/sequencer!
[18:30] <tsoliman> hmm .. it doesn't happen in master .. but then again this is a different tree so I might have messed up something
[18:31] <snover> it happens when the game starts?
[18:31] <tsoliman> yeah just before the sierra logo
[18:32] <tsoliman> first thing is the WIP warning popup .. then a 2 second wait (assuming fluidsynth loading) .. then the logo fades in and that message pops up in the console
[18:34] <tsoliman> I think it is fluidsynth not loading .. because in master I get a bunch of spam messages from fluidsynth on exit .. but not in this other branch
[18:36] <snover> hm
[18:37] <tsoliman> it doesn't happen in PQ4
[18:37] <tsoliman> and forcing fluidsynth in things like SQ5 works as well
[18:37] <snover> syncing subtitle / text and speech settings from the in-game settings might be causing global audio settings to get overridden
[18:38] <tsoliman> right but they are unchecked
[18:38] <snover> audio settings sync is not quite working right at the moment
[18:41] <tsoliman> hmm .. here's a crash that happened .. I decided to try out the "use FB01" engine option and it crashes with "FB-01 patch file not found, attempting to load sound bank from IMF.DRV" "Failed to open IMF.DRV"
[18:42] <snover> that option should not exist for& probably any sci32 game
[18:43] <snover> certainly the ones that dont actually use midi
[18:44] <tsoliman> yep
[18:44] <tsoliman> it is a non-issue - just thought I'd mention it
