[00:11] --> sharktamer joined #scummvm.
[00:11] <sharktamer> Heyo
[00:12] <sharktamer> Quick question, can I scale scummvm to the native resolution of my monitor?
[00:12] <sharktamer> I seem to remember doing it before, but I may be wrong
[00:12] <sharktamer> (That resolution being 1680x1050 btw)
[00:13] <LordHoto> in case your native resolution is 320x200, 320x240 or the 2x or 3x thereof yes, apart no ;-)
[00:13] <LordHoto> so no
[00:21] <sharktamer> Ah, that's a shame
[00:21] <sharktamer> I hate running programs full screen in other resolutions
[00:21] <sharktamer> And yes, I could run windowed, but I don't really want to do that
[00:21] <LordHoto> (actually for 640x480 games the 2x or 3x criteria fits too)
[00:21] <sharktamer> I guess I'll just run in full screen and live with it
[00:22] <LordHoto> dunno the only thing I hate about running programs full screen in other resolutions, is the linux nvidia drivers
[00:22] <LordHoto> they just always use their blurry scaling, while my display features a much nicer built-in scaling :-/
[00:22] <DrMcCoy> CRT ftw! :P
[00:23] <LordHoto> I only have two of those one old 19" and an old EGA monitor ;-P
[00:23] <LordHoto> and the 19" doesn't feature any nice resolutions ;-P
[00:25] <LordHoto> apart from taking too much space ;-P
[00:26] <DrMcCoy> Hmm, though my monitor seems to have developed a problem with 640x400 fullscreen :/
[00:26] <LordHoto> CRT ftw!
[00:26] <LordHoto> *cough*
[00:27] <DrMcCoy> The image isn't centered correctly, but shifted out of the visible area into the upper-left corner a bit
[00:27] <LordHoto> well you can adjust that, right?
[00:27] <DrMcCoy> And when I adjust it, it blinks on and off and then returns to the original (wrong) setting
[00:27] <DrMcCoy> O_o
[00:27] <LordHoto> can't you adjust that on a software side too?
[00:28] <DrMcCoy> Yes, but not while in Fullscreen mode in ScummVM :P
[00:28] <DrMcCoy> I guess the modeline settings SDL uses for 640x400 are bad
[00:28] <DrMcCoy> Or at least not good for my monitor :P
[00:29] <DrMcCoy> Ah, well, using ScummVM to correct the aspect to 640x480 and then fullscreen works too :P
[00:29] <DrMcCoy> Though it's kinda not really the correct solution :P
[00:30] <LordHoto> and it makes the picture uglier, right? ;-P
[00:32] <DrMcCoy> :P
[00:32] <sharktamer> Screw it, I think I'd prefer windowed mode
[00:37] <sharktamer> Ach, some of these games are way too small in windowed mode
[00:37] <sharktamer> Even with 3x
[00:38] <-- Hkz left irc: Ping timeout: 252 seconds
[00:39] <-- ST left irc: Read error: Connection reset by peer
[00:40] <DrMcCoy> Might be something for GSoC, a better scaling API?
[00:41] <DrMcCoy> To allow more arbitrary scaling. Although, that's gonna be really hard for stuff like HQ2x/HQ3x and the like
[00:41] --> ST joined #scummvm.
[00:41] #scummvm: mode change '+o ST' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.
[00:41] <LordHoto> well hq2x and hq3x would still only support 2x and 3x then
[00:41] <LordHoto> ;-P
[00:42] <DrMcCoy> ...
[00:42] <DrMcCoy> You know what I mean.
[00:42] <LordHoto> actually not
[00:42] <DrMcCoy> Well, my idea was adapting the HQ scalers to scale by abitrary values
[00:43] <DrMcCoy> Which might be a bit harder, for arbitrary integer values
[00:43] <LordHoto> or just write a nicer scaler to work with abitrary values
[00:43] <DrMcCoy> And completely screwy for non-integer values
[00:43] <LordHoto> the hq scalers are only nice for comic like stuff imho ;-P
[00:43] <DrMcCoy> Right
[00:43] <DrMcCoy> They produce crap for Dark Seed II, for example
[00:43] <DrMcCoy> :P
[00:44] <DrMcCoy> The only visible changes you see is that everything gets quite blurry :P
[00:44] <LordHoto> they kill all the nice pixel art for kyra too! the game looks all blurry with it ;-P
[00:44] <DrMcCoy> Interestingly, the MAME filter looks okay for DS2
[00:45] <DrMcCoy> Not blurrying the graphics (and not doing much to them in other ways), and still improving the mouse cursor and text
[00:46] <LordHoto> well
[00:46] <LordHoto> add it to the OpenTasks page and add yourself as mentor
[00:46] <LordHoto> ;-P

[01:15] <DrMcCoy> Stupid tea light...
[01:15] <LordHoto> sure!
[01:15] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: Have you ever seen a tea light with a tiny hole at the bottom?!? Who the hell does stuff like that?!?
[01:16] <DrMcCoy> Bah
[01:16] <LordHoto> wtf?
[01:16] <LordHoto> that sounds.... stupid....
[01:16] <DrMcCoy> Yeah
[01:18] <DrMcCoy> So I blew it out, put it onto my desk, removed the tea leaf, put it back and lighted it again
[01:19] <DrMcCoy> As I'm sitting, I held the candle over my pants most of the way
[01:19] <DrMcCoy> Now I have wax all over my (panted) left leg
[01:20] <DrMcCoy> Anyway, I have no idea what the equivalent English word is :P
[01:20] <LordHoto> teapot warmer or something like that should work I guess ;-P
[01:21] <DrMcCoy> But that's so...unpoetical :P
[01:21] <LordHoto> which is actually the word I hear in German more often too ;-P
[01:23] <DrMcCoy> Btw, what do you call the ends of a bread? :P
[01:23] <DrMcCoy> Here, it's "Knust"
[01:24] <LordHoto> can't remember any specific name ;-)
[01:24] <DrMcCoy> o_O
[01:25] <DrMcCoy> Well, what do you say then?
[01:25] <LordHoto> but I heard some recently, when a friend of my brother was here with his girlfriend from Saxony
[01:25] <DrMcCoy> Brotende?
[01:25] <CIA-25> fingolfin * r48163 /scummvm/trunk/engines/scumm/verbs.cpp: Patch #2963270: MM: V0 Verb Give Fix
[01:26] <DrMcCoy> No swing in it ;)
[01:26] <LordHoto> Knust has so much swing in it right
[01:26] <DrMcCoy> Yeah! :P
[01:27] <DrMcCoy> Don't you hear it?
[01:27] <LordHoto> no
[01:27] <DrMcCoy> It basically springs from you tongue and dances around!
[01:27] <LordHoto> Rand is so much nicer
[01:28] <DrMcCoy> Rand can be from any old thing
[01:28] <DrMcCoy> Knust only applies to bread
[01:28] <LordHoto> Rand is just a Rand
[01:28] <LordHoto> and not an old thing
[01:28] <DrMcCoy> Figure of speech
[01:28] <-- ST left irc: Read error: Connection reset by peer
[01:29] <LordHoto> actually Knust is just a crazy word

[01:33] <LordHoto> I know that Knust just sucks

[01:38] --> ST joined #scummvm.
[01:38] #scummvm: mode change '+o ST' by ChanServ!ChanServ@services.
[01:39] <DrMcCoy> I could substitute a soldering iron. But I'd guess that would just burn holes right through the pants :P
[01:42] <WilliamC> You could try using a dryer.
[01:42] <WilliamC> or a hair dryer
[01:43] <LordHoto> DrMcCoy: you want to turn it on and then use it? ;-P
[01:43] <DrMcCoy> I doubt my hair dryer goes anywhere near the required temperature
[01:43] <LordHoto> just scrap it off!
[01:44] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: I did. But liquid wax has such nice properties, being fluid and all. And guess what cloth does with liquids...
[01:45] <DrMcCoy> I.e. there's still wax /within/ the cloth of my jeans
[01:45] <LordHoto> so? ;-P
[01:45] <-- Ceriand|work left irc: Quit: Leaving.
[01:45] <DrMcCoy> The idea with a flat iron is to heat the wax so that it's liquid again. And putting an absorbant piece of paper in between the cloth and the iron
[01:46] <LordHoto> that doesn't sound nice with an soldering iron ;-P
[01:46] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: What do you mean "so?"? I don't like having waxy clothes
[01:46] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: Exactly
[01:46] <LordHoto> you should get used to waxy clothes then
[01:46] <LordHoto> or just be more careful!
[01:46] <WilliamC> Grease is worse.
[01:46] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: For once, the soldering iron gets hotter. Also, it's far more punctual, instead over a wide surface. => Hole :P
[01:47] <DrMcCoy> WilliamC: But grease doesn't dry like that and would be removed by the soap in the washing machine, no?
[01:48] <WilliamC> DrMcCoy, it repels water, make it difficult.
[01:48] <WilliamC> making
[01:48] <DrMcCoy> WilliamC: That's what soap is for
[01:48] <WilliamC> I guess, I've always had issues getting it out, I usually resulted to using a degreaser.
[01:48] <WilliamC> resorted
[01:49] <LordHoto> just run over a few rust traps and it'll wear off ;-P
[01:49] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: Or I could use the Fleckenschere, I know :P
[01:50] <LordHoto> Fleckenschere?
[01:50] <DrMcCoy> It removes all stains!
[01:51] <DrMcCoy> LordHoto: Never heard of the Fleckenschere? O_o

[01:51] <DrMcCoy> The ultimate stain remover
[01:52] <LordHoto> no
[01:52] <DrMcCoy> 1) Take some scissors
[01:52] <WilliamC> I'd resort to using a bleach pen first.
[01:52] <DrMcCoy> 2) Cut out the piece of cloth that contains the stain
[01:52] <DrMcCoy> 3) The stain is gone

[17:10] <RedDragon> hi! do you guys know what's the average playtime of a first time player of Monkey 2 hard mode?
[17:10] <Strangerke> Depends the player, I guess...
[17:11] <RedDragon> not too bright, not too stupid :P
[17:11] <Strangerke> If you don't use a walkthrough, it may be quite long
[17:11] <RedDragon> more than 30 hours?
[17:12] <Strangerke> maybe
[17:12] <Strangerke> It doesn't sound iirealistic, at least
[17:13] <RedDragon> Strangerke: what's your estimate for the general population of gamers?
[17:14] <RedDragon> (numerically speaking) :P
[17:14] <Strangerke> Honestly, I played it for the first time 20 years ago, I don't remember how long it took me ;)
[17:15] <logix> i think i first played it in easy mode and only then in hard mode
[17:17] <RedDragon> Strangerke: thanks for your opinion :)
[17:17] <Gentle> I find it interesting how much playtime may vary with experience
[17:18] <Gentle> I think my first The Dig playthrough took me very long and was very entertaining and all
[17:18] <Gentle> now it's less than 4 hours without skipping movies
[17:18] <Gentle> that said it's the game I played through most often ;)
[17:18] <Strangerke> Gentle: That helps a lot :)
[17:21] <LordHoto> what's Monkey Island 2 hard mode btw.?
[17:22] <LordHoto> I only know about easy and normal ;-)
[17:23] <RedDragon> :)
[17:24] <logix> hard is the one you unlock if you beat first easy, then normal, then twice easy, once normal, easy followed by 4 times normal
[17:24] <LordHoto> hehe
[17:25] <logix> it's basically easy just that there's no way to beat lechuck in the end :)

[23:27] <WilliamC> No, I just need to use the walkthrough because I'm not good at pixel hunting

[23:32] <RedDragon> life is silly. lol. yeah, but main characters in adventure games are a certain breed of freaks. cleptomania is the first thing that comes to mind... :P
[23:33] <fydo> haha
